So here is the deal. I'm debating on what to do. I'm an avid backpacker and I travel internationally quite frequently, so my range goes from mountains to rainforests. I'm debating on getting a heavy 12" machete paired with a mora and a SAK farmer, or an RC-3. What would you guys do and why.

I have used a machete, mora, sak trio for a while and felt it covered all the bases. The fact that you travel a lot is a good reason to take the cheaper stuff in case it gets lost or stolen. The RC-3 is one of the best knives I have ever used in the forest, desert, jungle, and backyard.

Not a fan of SAK's so I would say the RC3 unless you are going on a plane or somewhere you might have to ditch your knife. Nothing beats a Mora for being good and disposable.

The lost or stolen part is what has made me nervous about the RC-3.

I personally have never carried a SAK, but I hear so many people raving about the farmer that it has made me want to try one. Great thoughts about about the Mora being disposable. Any particular model that you would recommend?

jlouis976.....Whats up fellow show me state bro!

Man, the trio you outlined is awesome. Works great, and is cheap, and easily replaceable.

That said....I would add the RC blade as well, and sub it with the Mora whenever feasable. With that trio and the RC3, you are at a very affordable budget.

Plus, if you havent had a RC....You need to. Trust me, they are great blades.

Where abouts you at in Missouri?

I'm in St. Louis (Ballwin/Valley Park area to be specific). How about yourself?

The only SAK that I've ever had that i liked was the farmer model, It's greatest recommendation were the valox metal sides. I'd had the side scales come off the other SAK that I had purcahsed. The frmer also has a sensible selection of the tools.

I have used Mora's and they are ok but not great. There are other puukos out there tht are greater quality but the Mora's are cheap so carry two.

Rc3 is supposed to be a very good knife I haven't had the pleasure of using one yet. Personaly I have no qualms about sacrificing and spending the extra dough to invest in really good gear.

The Rat 3 is a great knife but for me, If I am packing a Machete I would much rather carry a Mora Tri-Flex or a Vic Farmer just because of the weight. Really the 12 inch Tram and a Vic Farmer would do it all. IMO.

I would get all of them - a Mora,a SAK and the RC-3.
The RC-3 will be my sheath knife, the SAK will stay in my pocket and the Mora will be my back-up knife :)

I have a SAK Farmer...love it. I have a Mora2000...love it. I have a Rat RC4 LOVE it. I also have a Ka Bar kukri machete... also love it. Oh yea and a bunch of Spydie folders. Ifeel I have no where to go but custom knives. Those are all great knives IMO.

You know....you're all just making this more difficult. All I've gotten so far is that they are all awesome. What the heck am I supposed to do with that? ;)
