I want the toughest knife for 200 or less. I said stratofighter. I want a folder tough enough to stand on.TOUGH ENOUGH TO USE AS AN EMERGENCY PITON!!!!!. Thats what I mean by tough. Any thoughts. What about Emerson

Why would you use a folder if you need that tough a knife? The Cold Steel SRK has been used as an emergency piton.

If it's got to be a folder, get a Greco.

You can get a piton for only a few dollars. If you feel that's your scariest risk, use the right tool.

Yep, I agree too. If you want tough, you need to go fixed blade. A folder's only as tough as the pivot pin. The Swamp Rat M6 is a good bet at $168.95. You can get it online at www.shop.ratknives.com . You'll even have enough left over to buy a piton!

yes I agree! Infact I just got one:

You could check out the Scrap Yard Knives, the Scrapper 6 is something like $107 shipped (including the optional sheath)

$122.85 to your door including the sheath. Identical blade to the mischief 6 only with res c handles and a little thicker of sr77 instead of sr101. I just got one, and, with the exception of the poor bevel grind, love it. It took a little while to fix the bevel grind, but now it's fixed, and this knife is a brute.

I don't want to use it as a piton. I just want a folder that tough incase I had to. Just to use as an example of toughness. Saying something that ''use the right tool'' reminds me of the quick smarta@% comments people make. like when someone asks something like, whats the best survival knife.'' Oh it's the one you have on you when you need it''. hahaha, wow how funny and quick and smart. Yeah. Anyway, I've been climbing for the past 15 years, and free soloing for the past 5. I assure you I know what tools I need.Just saying hypotheticly What folders come to mind when useing that as an example.

Why not a Buck 110 from Wal-Mart or Kmart for $30?

If you want a more modern one have a thumb stud and pocket clip put on it. Done for $60 tops and you have an updated modern style tough knife for less money than a 880 would run you, and on top of that you'd end up having a better lock too. That 880 is a good knife though, but the length and the lock type causes it to lose some ground for a lot of folks. The length plays against the lock to a large extent and makes it easier to disengage from sideways torques. As a result I'd say go with the 881 Mini so its got a better more reliable lock up.

Of course you can do the same thing to a Buck 112 Ranger too for a bit more money.

Oh yeah. I don't know what you are specifically thinking of as far as manufacturer orgin or if it matters to you but if you want another high value tough a$$ knife for less look at the stainless Byrd Cara Cara.

I have a Columbia River M-16 folder I trust my life too. Also there is a knife called "Becker" which I like a lot. 7" blade and I could cut nails with the edge.

Do you have any particular lock preferences? Do you like back locks? Axis Locks? Liner Locks? Frame Locks? You can get a BM 635 for way under 200, Manix(tough knife), BM Rukus, Spyderco Chinook, Al Mare Sere. If you save you money(its tough I know) you could go strider such as an SNG, or an AR(tank). The Buck/strider 880 is a good choice and is a beefy folder. There's the Hossom Retribution like said is just a monster knife and it may be bigger than you want just like the AR. If I had to use a knife as a Piton, jeez I would use a strider AR haha over all of them, but some of them would def work.

You can find most of these knives well below MSRP and alot of times here on the exchange section, so you might be able to get a good deal.
