I'm back and I survived! I had a blast, but boy oh boy am I sore. First, I want to thank all of you for your support. It means a lot to have people cheering you on when you have 12 miles of terrain and obstacles to overcome. So here is my official Tough Mudder review. I could barely sleep Saturday due to being so excited about the run. I thought I'd be nervous but I was beyond excited. At the event everything was energy filled and everyone was so kind. I was in the first wave of runners, we warmed up, we climbed the wall to the start line (yeah, there is an obstacle you have to climb over just to get to the starting line), the national anthem was played and we were off and running. I joined up with a group of complete strangers who welcomed me with open arms. We cheered each other along and helped one another over the obstacles.
The course wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There were more obstacles than they had posted on the course layout online, so there were a few surprises along the way. The Mud Mile was tricky, climbing over little hills covered in slimy mud and sliding into pits of slick mud over and over made it difficult to find a sure footing. Walk the Plank was taller than I expected and the water was deeper than I thought it would be. I had a moment of panic when it took me longer than I thought it would to find the surface. The Glory Blades and Berlin Walls weren't bad except for the tops of the walls being wet and slippery. The rope to climb in Balls to the Wall was very wet and slippery as well, but there were ledges to use to push yourself up with to aid in getting over the top. Arctic Enema was cold, very cold. After that, I had a hard time getting my body warm. Funky Money was a lot easier than I thought it would be, I did fall right before the last bar when my grip gave out but I was shocked that I even made it that far. Pyramid Scheme was awesome, the amount of comradery was inspiring. It was one of my favorite obstacles in the entire course. Everest was a lot easier than I thought it would be. I almost made it to the top by myself and the guys that were there to grab me were very quick and helpful. I was up there my first try. Electroshock Therapy wasn't bad either. After about a dozen zaps I was through and my headband was being placed on my head.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any pictures. I'm going to try to see if there are any on the website. If there are, I will be sure to share them with all of you. I can't wait to do it again. It was one of the greatest things I've done in my life. The cuts and bruises that I have are like badges of honor that I'm wearing with pride. I may be limping a little, but pain is temporary. The memories I gained will last forever.
