First, sorry, no pics. I bought a rather battered Plumb Boy Scout hatchet last week on Ebay (about $20 + shipping, which added another $10:eek:). The poor creature arrived earlier this week. The good news is that the helve is actually sound (though it has some small vertical cracks). The head is tight as a drum. The bad news is that the face was dull. I mean, we're talking an edge perhaps nearly 1/8" wide! I don't think it had ever been sharpened, and it looks as though someone had deliberately dulled the edge.

There was some minor battering around the poll, which cleaned up easily with a file. The face, however, is a monster! I've spent hours working on it with file, stone and emory cloth. It's only now coming into shape. My impression is that this little piece, rough around the edges, is going to be a real gem. After I finish with the profiling/sharpening, I'll have to fabricate a cover.

I'd been reading that some of these Plumbs were good stuff. Now I'm a believer.
