All these considered, which folders (less than 3" blade) would be considered the toughest guys on the block? I'm looking for something that my grandkids will use cuz I can't break it. I'm looking for something that's bulletproof and foolproof.

Thanks

How much are you looking to spend? strider makes some crazy thick bad folding knives/prybars....

There can be no mechanism guaranteed indestructible. This a question that comes up again and again. There are many extremely durable folders.

(alphabetically)
Buck Strider 880
Exrema Ratio
Ka-Bar Mule
Kershaw Zero Tolerance
Ontario Hossom Retribution I and II
Sebenza
Spyderco Manix and Chinook
Strider folders

Many custom folders. From my experience, Darrel Raph, Kit Carson, and Rick Hinderer make outstandingly strong folders -- not to disparage others.

If you are looking for durable heirloom knives, I would spcifically recommend Chris Reeve's Sebenza, small Sebenza, Mnandi, and Unfaan (if you can find one). These can be found with graphics, inlays, and damascus blades.

I had to say S*E*B*E*N*Z*A !!! :D

Yes, the Sebenza would fit the bill. I'm looking for something tough, but not tactical at all.

I'm not saying it's the toughest, but I fully expect my Bradley Alias to stand up to the lifetime of abuse I plan to give it, and then some, and still look good doing it.

I dont see the sebenza as tactical looking.

get one with unique graphics, my favorite being moon song, and it wont be a knife, but a work of art with an edge. ;)

Buck/Strider 881 has a blade less than 3 inches and it's dang near bulletproof...

if you never want say "my knife is worn, i need a new one" buy a frame lock folder with titanium body, non plastic washers and a top steel blade

they dont com cheap

Chris Reeves Sebenza (most $$)
Bradley Alias (Benchmade made)
Buck Mayo TNT
and many more
do a search for "titanium frame lock knife folder"

If you're truly looking for a knife to pass down to generations, Chris Reeve is where I'd look. Not only is it top quality, tough-as-nails gear but, when it gets to lookin like 10 miles of bad road, you can send back to their "knife spa" and they'll make it beautiful again. And with their reputation and success, you don't have to worry too much about them being out of business anytime soon.

Yeah, the Sebenza is tough....but it's also way over-priced.

If you want a folder that is extremely tough, yet more affordable, then I recommend a bali-song folder (but check your local laws; they're illegal in some places).

Good luck,
Allen

For one of the toughest under 3 inch blade I'd think the strider pt would be worth a look. "Edge" length on an sng might be under 3, but don't quote me on it.

I'm with hardheart, IMO you're asking the wrong question.

What you should be asking is "What knife is designed and made well enough so that I can do xxxx and will still last a long time?". It's better probably to determine proper and reasonable knife use and care. After all traditional non locking folders have lasted lifetimes.

Emerson makes a mini cqc7 I think. The Emerson cqc 12 is a lock frame and should be strong but has a big blade.
