I'm looking for some real use 'em if you got em type knives for under $35. Both fixed and folders. I'm attempting to get multiples of one specific knife type, . If the S ever HTF I want to outfit my people who don't have their own with some of the same tools (except guns, they better have their own). Also one or two for me. So any recommendations?

I like this Schrade SCHF13 it's pretty sweet.

I have no fixed so I'll leave that for others but I don't think you can get tougher folder for the money than the Utilitac II. I have never bought one but I have handled it a few times, it's a $25-30$ monster.

For the toughest low-cost fixed blades, I'd be looking at Condor Knives.

Actually, I second Bob W's suggestion. The Condor Rodan is a little like a Becker BK2 clone, but half the price.

I just checked it out. It's just a little too bushcraft style for what I'm looking for at the moment. I'm thinking all around I suppose.

They have a nice variety of styles. A bushcraft knife might be just the thing you need for your SHTF fantasy anyway - unless you're planning on knife-fighting the entire US Marines, and even then a standard outdoor knife will work as well as any other.

Buck offers some good options in the $35 range, fixed and folders.

Lol it isn't a fantasy of mine just something that might happen lol. And I already have a list of bushcraft blades I'm looking for. This is just for a different purpose. I'm in phoenix anyways so there just won't be much bushcraftin' opportunities for me if anything ever happens.

Oh and also I don't really plan on knife fighting anyone. That's why I said all around. And also most Marines would be on the side of the people anyways, only people i fear we'll have a problem with is LE and DHS. Anyways I'm just looking for well rounded utility and tough as hell.

That thing is EFFIN sweeeeeet. Damn. You've got my eyes open on that one.

Here is a video comparing the Toloza to a couple other knives.

Just curious, why do you think you'd have a problem with LEOs, and are you imagining a situation where it's Marines and the people vs. LEOs and DHS? ;) Also out of curiosity, who are your people that you'll be outfitting with this stuff? Not trying to sound confrontational so I hope it isn't taken that way, but I'm curious.

You don't sound confrontational at all. The reason why I think police and DHS will be the main problem is because I've seen the difference in their attitudes toward other people. I think the police often times (majority) tend to have a "us and them" sort of mentality while soldiers seem a lot more humble and honestly (don't take this the wrong way) seem to have higher aptitudes. The police have been becoming militarized while the soldiers are throwing away their medals and coming out and telling the truth and detesting all the crap going on. It's beginning to seem like a line being drawn from both sides. I also believe the military is much more about the oath and defending against enemies foreign or domestic and L.E.O's tend to be a little bit more about power. And the people I'll be outfitting are mainly the people in my family who don't think anything is coming and refuse to be ready but will need to be. I don't think about it too much I just can't stand seeing that my father and brother don't even own so much as a freakin' knife, while my mother and I have guns.. lol.

Thanks for your thoughts. My brother was military but no one in my family is LE unless there's someone in my extended family I don't know about.

In my completely unimportant personal experience, there is a big difference in law enforcement from a big or even mid-sized city, and law enforcement in a small town for example. In the bigger cities in which I've frequented, law enforcement tend to be (again just my experience) a bit more selfless, caring about the citizen, and all about the job and doing good.

For some reason, the cops I know from the small towns tend to be caught up in themselves and the power and less about the citizen and the job. Of course I can't say for certain if this is due largely to the demographics, but it's interesting. Granted, in the small towns, there wasn't much for them to do but catch people for speeding and show their batons to the gas station clerks, and perhaps this had something to do with it.

Funny you say that because I feel like it's the other way around...lol. I feel like police in small towns (Sheriff's Dept.) are a lot more about the people and in cities its militarized police all looking to meet quota and rake in money. But hey I don't know, maybe it's just where we've both been that's completely different.

Yeah I think we've just been different places that have shown us different things... both equally valid I;d say.
