Toughest, heftiest, sub $35 fixed and folders?

No disrespect to anyone, but cops are abusing their power in small towns and big cities. It doesn't matter where you're from. I'm from a somewhat smallish city, and our local news station uncovered official police documents in which the cop who pulls over the most people in a given month can choose the shift he wishes to work for that month. As a result, law-abiding citizens are crying foul because they're getting pulled over and the past couple of months have seen more "warnings" because no one is actually breaking the law. They're just pulling people over and issuing official warnings to raise their stats. How unfair is that? Talk about meeting a quota.

Sorry for ranting off topic. On the subject of toughest knives for under $35, I'm gonna have to go with the Ontario Utilitac II. That thing is a beast and comes in many different variations.

If I had to outfit a group of people or just have extras for for SHTF for as cheap as possible, it would be Ontario Utilitac II's and Cold Steel GI Tantos.

Oh, and in before the Opinel guys call you a mall ninja and demand you kill yourself for wanting a knife for defensive purposes.

Fixed blade:
Glock 78/81
Kershaw camp 10
Cold steel bowie machete
Ontario spec plus has some about $35.
Read good things about Condor

Folders:
(Only have a few myself)
Utilitac II
Rat 1 is pretty good.

I'm sure others can chime in on durable folders.

Condor Rodan. it's not really a bushcraft knife - it's a little too big for that. It really is just what you were describing you wanted - a cheap, multipurpose, tough beater blade. The steel they use is very tough and takes a great edge. I thinned the edge down a little and made it a screaming sharp convex edge. I showed it to my brother one day and he loved it so much he just had to have it. I sold it to him for exactly what I paid. Then they went up - freakin' Amazon!!!

Condor Hudson Bay or Lifeland hunter?

Cold Steel GI Tanto. Big tough beater blade that is cheap as hell.

Cold Steel Mini Recon 1. Right now they are just barely under your price range. They probably will not stay there for long. It's what most people would consider a great EDC size. If it's too small for you, move up to the regular Recon.

Ontario Rat 1 is a nice beater folder.

You don't sound confrontational at all. The reason why I think police and DHS will be the main problem is because I've seen the difference in their attitudes toward other people.

I've known plenty of military guys whose attitudes don't matter, because they consider it their duty above all to follow orders, no matter what. You don't think those marines will be an issue but the cops and DHS will?

I like the Cold Steel Tuff Lite a lot. It is immensely practical for me.

The Rodan is a pretty good knife for the money. I also like the Hudson Bay pictured above.

The Condor Bushlore is a pretty good blade. It is styled in the classic bushcraft spear point, but I find it useful for many tasks.

Swiss Army knives are hard to beat for a general purpose pocket knife that is very useful. I've carried for years and even when I say I am switching to another EDC, I end up just adding another knife to my pocket.

The Kabar Dozier's are good inexpensive folders.
