Price tends to increase disproportionately to increases in quality (however defined). That last 1% costs a ton!
But cost/price also often increaases with no relationship, or very little, to quality. I.e., the value of brand and the "latest thing."
Spyder used to be a "hot" brand in outdoor clothing - almost as hot as Underarmor once was. But one day I was Winter tent-canping and somehow had forgotten a wind-resistant layer. Of course there was wind.
I drove to the nearest freway exit and found a branch of an area chain famous for deep discounts on this and that - Mark's. They had a toilet paper box full of Spider Gore-Tex jackets - at $11.99 each - all red. I wore it that one weekend. It had all the usual deficiencies of "waterproof" [not really] "breathable." That is how I learned that Spyder was not longer fashionable.
