Tour of Niagara Specialty Metals

man did you see that billet of 10V, my precious :D

A guy could make a nice anvil out of that. :)

Kidding of course.

Thanks for the pics. I'm sure when/if I move to stainless or tool steel, they'll be getting my business.

You should try some CruForgeV... big improvements over any of the previous steels I've used for forging, and easily heat treated. That big shiny pile of billets was 8000 pounds of the stuff!!

Thanks a lot for this report Matt. Look to be good folks to deal with -- I'm glad they're
interested in us. Next time you see them would you ask if they have any plans to carry
the CPM D2? After seeing Roman's talk and slides the reduced carbide size sounds very
promising.

i wold not hold your breath on that after talking with scott at blade 2 years ago

(seems to have messed up some of there tooling when that one and only batch was made )

AWESOME!! I love lots and lots of steel! Sounds like a good place.

Erin, have you seen Don Hanson's W2 for sale thread? He's got hundreds of pounds of the stuff he's selling. I just picked up a 40 pound box of 2&1/8 round that Don is sending to a guy he knows to reduce for me. Total of around $240 for somewhere close to 22 feet of the stuff once it's pounded down to 1.25"x1/4" (he can probably reduce to any size you want and get it all in the ball park). It's from the same melt as the stuff he uses for his amazing blades.

VERY VERY COOL my friend!!! :)

Damn.

Dan... you are not the only one! lol... I'd have to build a shop around it though... that "liitle mill" is a freaking beast. :D

So Matt.... do you know how those giant billets end up with the grinding marks that they have? They almost look like they've had a giant angle grinder ran against them (perpendicular to the surface).

And is the 770# on the 10V the weight? Seems like it would be heavier than that.

So very cool. Thank you so much for taking the tour and sharing it with us!!!

I'd guess that weight was right, Nick... if you look at Spangler's stomach, and that bar of 10v, they're similar is size.

No clue on how those marks got put on, but that really is what it looks like. I'll ask next chance I get.

anyone seens matt's gut lately? it's huge. too much jam i think
lucky bastard

awesome little tour matt. it really rocks. thank you very much for sharing with everyone. i can't wait to see what the future brings.

Nick on the other hand is cool

Spangler is cool too.

This thread full of bad ass pics is too cool for me to make fun of Matt...

But if it's still available, I would like to take #63 for the win!!!
