'tourist Terrorism' Claimed

Well, that is part of the truth that I have a hard time handling. The US has armed Bin Laden, Iran, Saddam and Israel. We have gotten mad at Israel for arming China with some of the arms we gave them. IIRC we armed Mao Tse Tung and Ho Chi Minh and before that armed Joe Stalin before threatening to blow him up. It is like a big game of "Survivor" where you have to switch alliances every once in a while in order to stay in the game.

If I was a player in this particular game, I'd still be expecting Israel to make some really big craters in its former trading buddy Iran sometime soon.

"The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

That has been our policy in a lot of cases, good in the short term, but not really in our long term interests.

Hollow, I do share your concerns about Israel. Like other friends of ours, they of course have their own self interest which at times puts allies at odds.

I've not forgotten Israel attacked a Naval Ship and took US lives.

But Israel is our friend and I support them.

Yo! Boys. You're waking the baby. Just what the Bill Martino does this rant have to do with kukris? Calm down, eat some of the little yellow pills and let's get back to wood and steel.

....Everything; everything to do with life and khukuris. I'm not familiar with the yellow pills, though.

...come to think of it, they are marketing pills by their color now, aren't they? "The purple pill called Ne___"

Anyway, there's lots of wood and steel in the other threads if you find this one unappealing, nifer. By Cantina standards, we are calm ; you should see the place when the Duck flys in.

We sent lots of military supplies to the USSR and they used it to kill Hitler's Germans. How was that not in our long term best interests?

We supported the French against the traditional enemy of China, the Vietnamese. THAT was not in our long-term best interests (But we though it was at the time).

I'll give you the support to the Mujawhatevers. Afghanistan was an embarassment, but it was the failure of Communism as an economic system that was eating them inside-out.

Countries have no friends, merely interests, and interests change. Marriage isn't simple. Why sould foreign relations be simple?

The Musha whatevers in Afganistan did not all turn around and attack the US. A small, modest proportion of them went on to be the Taliban and Al Queda.

As Thomas says, very few things in international relations are simple.
