I was checking some different woods and thought I'd share some links about toxicity. I have been alittle lax wit my respirator lately and I have woken up twice at night from lack of O2. Micarta and epoxies are just as bad. I hope this will encourage all new guys and some of us lazy (it will never happen to me) guys. I'm back to respirator full time maybe even with leather haha

It never hurts to re-emphasize safety. A few years ago I worked with cocobolo for the first time, and I wasn't very careful. It was basically like having pneumonia for 4-5 weeks... Lesson learned the hard way! A little research goes a long way.

And, never mind the dermatitis that it might give you. Jeez! Worse than poison ivy! Not as many blisters, but 10X more annoying, and takes weeks to go away!

This subject usually fails to differentiate between toxic and allergic reactions, there can be both.. None the less only clean air should be in your lungs !! Get the best resperator you can find ! Try to avoid any woods that give you other problems.

MOP ,pearl, and abalone are not toxic, but the dust from them can make you sick. I was always taught that they were quite toxic, but have read that this isn't true. In any case , wearing a good filter when creating fine dust is a must.

BTW, it does no good to wear a respirator while grinding, and then work in the shop full of dust without one when the grinder is off.....vacuum up the dust when done grinding.

I can tell ya, my lungs are making me pay for years of building MDF subwoofer enclosures with no mask. Oh, I can breath but it just seems that I am more susceptable to various allergens that make me sound like I have a cold year round.
