Does anyone have experience with the poly small wheels that Tracy sells? I want to add a 3/4" wheel to my collection, and it looks like I can save $25 if I go with the poly wheel over the rubber wheel. Anyone have issues with the poly material... overheating, wear, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Erin I have the 1" poly wheel and have had no problems with it at all. I'm looking at adding a 3/4" and a 1.5" ones in the near future.

I reciently purchased the 3/4 & the 1" and they seem to work well.

He has other sizes now? I have the soft 4 inch wheel and I love it!!

The thing that worries me most about the poly wheels is the melting point.

From tr

Tracy's page:
In use, polyurethane will start to melt around 185F degrees. If you run them that hot, you'll have problems with the bearings (on both the rubber and poly wheels) also. Keep the temp down and these will work just fine and you'll save 1/3 of the cost of rubber wheels.

Now I try not to let things get too hot during finish grinding... but pre-HT things can get pretty hot. Guess if there's nobody out there with a horror story they're probably OK.

I dont think my wheels have ever gotten even close to that hot. If the bearings are bad maybe but I'm still running the same wheels that came with my BK for 12 years.

I don't wear gloves to do any grinding and my fingers tell me way before the blade gets to 185 degrees!
