Forgive my ignorance if I should have dug this up somewhere. I am considering listing some knives for trade. I'm new to this so should I send off first? Should I ask the other person to send first? Should I send one in good faith, then the rest when I recieve what I'm trading for? Or is it just whatever agreement we make?

If they have a good feedback score and since you do not have any, don't be surprised if they ask that you ship first. But it really all comes down to what you and the other party agree to. Good luck!

I moved your thread to the Feedback section, where questions should go. The actual trade forums are the transaction aspects alone.

It's not unheard of for the person with the least amount of feedback and time on the forums to ship first. This is not written in stone anywhere, and it is not the only way to do things. I would definitely do research on the person you are dealing with. Read through their feedbacks, iTrader, and check this subforum for negative and positive comments. I will also highly recommend the use of insurance for the package you are sending out. In case the other person decided to not ship, or if it gets lost you would be protected. I'd much rather spend $5-$10 on insurance than to lose a $xxx.xx knife.

I also wrote this a while ago, it might be of some use.

Rev, I cant see how insurance would cover the other party not shipping, can you clarify how that would come into play.

I always ship with delivery confirmation and a tracking number is emailed immediately to the receiving person. I expect the same in return. On high dollar knives definitely get insurance. I will also put photos in my listings with a basic description of the knives. If someone shows interest I will take additional photos and answer any questions as needed.

Just remember to be honest in all of your dealings with folks. Your word is your bond. Everyone I have traded with here on BF has been great. I love trading with folks as it gives the opportunity to try different knives without spending lots of money, other than your original investment in the trade knife.

Thanks everyone. I'll probably jump in and pay for a membership so I can sell them if no one is interested in the trades when I decide to list them. I would definately insure them and ship with a delivery confirmation and recipient signature.

Yea tracking order is important to many people

Like the other people said, they will want you to ship first most likey because you have no feedback. When i buy stuff i normally send the payment first if they decent feedback. On trades both are sent at the same time or atleast for me. Like the others said it all comes down to who you are trading with

Some people go by tracking numbers. They will ask you to ship first, but they will ship once you give them the tracking number that way you dont have to wait as long. All people start somewhere, but dont be offended with the first 5 or so transactions you have, you will be asked to pay/ship first.

If you are sending your knife to parts unknown, and the other person decideds not to ship you are out exactly 1 knife. If you insure your parcel, and the same scenario happens, you have recourse to get the cost of your knife back.
