I have always been a huge fan of inexpensive beater style blades so in my life I have had a few throwing knives that I used around camp as actual cutting implements. My oldest favorite(lost by my brother......he is dead to me LOL) was a H&B thrower with leather slab handles and a 6in(ish) double edged blade. I worked the edges down and carried it a lot for throwing and general mayhem :) Another that I keep around is my Tru Bal Bowie Ax. They have even been carried in combat as field knives and make great camp tools for cutting and stump stabbing at distance :D A while back I made the bottom two blades. One single edged and the other double edged. I used harness rivits and 1/8in thick G10 scales over 5/16 5160. Kinda heavy for their size but plenty tough. On the double edged one I cut notches in the blade to mimic the notches applied to the old trade knives from the Hudson's Bay Company. I was messing around with the double edged one last week and it hit me that a single edged blade with the notch would be sweet. Well yesterday I started one and finished it today. I used some orange G10 this time for the handles. It is 12 1/8in overall with a 7 3/8in blade(tip to handle). I even left the mill scale on the flats for some character :) It's ugly as sin to some but pretty to me. I think it fits the bill as a modern trade knife. It's easy to make,no frills, cheap(if I ever get around to selling them), and it works :D

Those are really cool Bill!

I have an old Bowen Bowie Thrower, I should have bought three of them when I had the chance.

Cool idea Bill. I lke the notch as it looks like it could double as a bottle opener. The double edge reminds me of the big orange thrower you had back when I bought the SAR proto from you.

Not ugly at all! I love it. Great design. A little bit contemporary.... a little bit historical. Very nice.
