I am thinning out some redundancies in my collection, and this beauty is getting cut. This was taken out of its packaging just for pictures.
It is a Laguiole knife from prestigious French knife-maker Fontenille-Pataud. That said, it is part of their "L'essentiel" ("Essential") line, which is their relatively low cost line, that uses a bunch of cost-cutting measures (e.g. no nice box, and lesser slip), but has most of the same features as their flagship lines (such as the forged bee, as well as the impressive hand-filed guilloché on the backspring..
This is the 12 cm (refers to closed length) laguiole in walnut. You can read about it here: https://www.fontenille-pataud.com/en/1593-knife-laguiole-essential-12-cm-walnut.html.
I have the original packaging, which is not a box, but a nested pair of plastic ziplock bags. Included is a leather slip and a slip of paper.
A few notes about the knife. The blade is sharp and has its factory edge, but it is definitely not scary sharp. It could use a good stropping (maybe a little more than that).
The backspring is quite heavy and tense. I am not good at rating these, but my good faith estimate is that the pull is around an 8. Getting the knife out of the fully open position is even harder.
As is shown in the photos, the blade is not centered well, but it does not rub. I have seen many Fontenilles, including from the more expensive lines that are not centered. I don't think it is something the manufacturer cares about, unlike so many enthusiasts.
Despite all this, I still think this is a very nice knife. And it is a painless way for you to acquire a Fontenille-Pataud.
Post/PM/email any trade offers. If you want to email me, it is my user name at the G Mail (no punctuation, spaces, etc). Also, feel free to ask me any questions!
I am ok with cash accompanying in either direction.
I am mainly into US- or European-made folders.
Make me an offer. I promise that the worst thing I will do is say "no thanks."
