One thing that really puts me off from carrying in the pocket, is that the flipper could 'detonate' and open the blade in your pocket with fatal consequences..:poop: But perhaps I don't understand how to carry it safely? advice welcome.
As long as it isn't an automatic or spring assist, I don't think that should be a problem. I carry mine tip up, against the right side of a front right pocket, so even if it were to open slightly, the spine of the blade is restricted by the outer seam, and my hand wouldn't get cut reaching into the pocket.

Also, there are lots of smaller sized modern knives out there.

Very nice comparison Jer  That Russell doesn't look too big which is good and it's one thing that keeps me away from most Moderns, the sheer hulking size of a lot of them:eek:

One Modern I like a great deal is the CRKT Ripple by Ken Onion: light, compact and flips open very smoothly :D Nor is it expensive either unless you go Titanium. This KAI has the sort of opening you're talking about, I think. Pull on the flipper and a spring drives the blade open. It hadn't occurred to me to worry about it opening by itself; it needs pretty firm pressure in one direction.
I forget the name of my AGR flipper, but it was cheap because it was being discontinued. It has no spring to drive the blade open. You need a sprightly finger, or you can start it with an index finger on the flipper and finish opening it with the thumb-hole. Or, my personal favorite, you can stroke the flipper and lightly flip your wrist.

Now I have a way to carry multiple knives when I go places.
You know... in case the urge to switch knives pops up or I have the opportunity to show some off.
I figure traditionals on the left and moderns on the right. The little Case Medium Jack is in my pocket.

WOW! I don't think a Boy Scout could be better prepared than this...nice going

Thank you. :)
I got so used to switching knives during the day while on Summer vacation.
I thought, why not continue with it when I return to work. :D

good idea John - I like it - I hate to think of carrying multi good knives out with the risk of loosing them or damaging them etc

Thanks for the advice about the flipper. Still dubious about it though....you touch it and it fires open like an auto or flick knife...I don't need goring in the femoral artery or genitals  Just don't dare put it in the pocket. Annoying as it's a light, nicely contoured knife that is also keen:D

Let's have a look.

Those go well together.
You could tighten down the pivot so it's harder to flick open, but where's the fun in that?
