Traditional and Modern pairings

Here are two 10-dollar knives:

The modern is a Harbor Freight “Gordon” brand ball-bearing flipper. I ordinarily would never have entertained the thought of buying one of the abominations that pass for knives at “Horror Fraught” (as as I saw someone refer to it in a product review), but I went there to get something else, and just HAD to look…
I was surprised at the heft of the thing, and at the fact it said it was 8Cr13MoV steel - which I have seen touted as adequate in various places on the internet. Their usual fare has 3Cr13 and looks like the lowest of low-end junk.
I suspect the OEM for this model is a company that also makes better knives. It feels solid, has a decent flipping action, and came extremely sharp. It still has a bit of a cheap feel to it somehow, the pivot and bearings seem like a possible weak spot, and of course it is nowhere near as cool as the Okapi. Still, I was expecting to hate myself for buying it, but so far I am pleased, actually…
