Traditional and Modern pairings

............but, Dave - gloves in Dallas

Here in lil ol' UK I'd always imagined Texas as a place of sunshine, cactus and the constant hum of air conditioners to keep all you fine folk cool - great surprise to hear of the weather you're having yesterday.

Keep warm, buddy.!
Thank you, Paul! We usually get a few good cold snaps every winter in North Texas. It was 18F / -7C when I headed out on my walk yesterday. Very windy too. Took my gloves off to take photos and IMMEDIATELY put them back on. 🥶 Luckily, I’m a snow skier so I’ve accumulated a good amount of cold weather gear. I’ve been fly fishing with a friend in Montana deep winter when it was 4F / -16C. Now *that* was cold, but there was morning whisky, and we caught lots of beautiful trout! 1769526208752.jpeg

I have upland bird and waterfowl hunted with snow on the ground and water slushy but I have not fly fished in it. Bet that was a blast

- geez, Dave..............you guys are HARD

...........that looks great fun 👍👍 - and hopefully a hot-toddy or three after that.!
We got a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to access a bunch of rare locations in Montana with a buddy who used to be a pro guide. Convinced ourselves we could ignore the weather. This was late winter 2021; everyone had cabin fever. Getting out into the wilderness was necessary…and worth it! IMG_7308.jpeg

Fifty some-odd years ago I hunted small game, primarily rabbits, at my grandpa's farm in north-central Illinois. It had snowed the day before, and there was about 3 inches on the ground when the temperature plummeted. I went out at about 10 in the morning and, with the sun bright, it was still -14°. Thankfully there was little to no wind. I hunted for about 2 hours and saw many songbirds and small rodents dead on top of the snow.
