I'm not sure if this has been done or not but I thought it might be fun. Lets see some pictures of your favorite knife and BBQ.

Brisket and jalapeno cheddar sausage along with my 43. This is BBQ Texas style and served the proper way on butcher paper. No sauce here, as we say in the Texas hill country sauce is a pit masters way of hiding his mistakes.

Ah, that reminds me of something I read in one of Calvin Trillin's books. Whenever someone recommended a BBQ place to him he would always ask, "Do they have plates?". If the answer was "Well, yes, of course they do!" then he would decline, since (according to him) the best places served on brown butcher paper. :)

Thats some tasty looking turkey. I saw your from ATX, is that from Rudy's?
It's pork loin, actually, but yes it's from Rudy's. It might not be the best BBQ, but I like it. They'll cut your brisket lean, fatty, or mixed.:thumbsup:

Forgive the recycled photo, but I definitely like me some BBQ and blades!!:D

Looks good, but uh-oh! We gonna have a Texas vs. Tennessee BBQ showdown? Do I spy beans and saltines in that thar chili?

Here's Pearl to make peace:

Rudy's is good for a chain. The sign on the wall "worst BBQ in Texas" make me laugh every time. I normally get the cutters choice brisket and it if I run by there early in the morning a couple egg and sausage tacos are must.

Beans it is! :p I’ve heard tell that you Texans don’t put beans in your chili. ;) I normally prefer cornbread with my chili but this particular restaurant has sweet cornbread and I don’t like sweet cornbread! Pearl is looking good!:cool:

It ain’t served on butcher paper, but Augie’s barbed wire bbq in San Antonio is good eating and cuts the brisket how you want it.

Also, C&J in College Station is really good BBQ.

That's an old picture of Pearl from before she started her journey. I confess I like beans in my chili too, but traditionally Texas chili is beanless.

I have never met a bowl of chili I didn't love, but I have to confess that, although leaving out the beans is not an unpardonable sin, it sure seems like a waste to leave them out! ;)

I'm not fit to contribute to the barbecue discussion. I was brought up in a house/culture in which "barbecue" is made from ground beef, onions, ketchup, mustard, vinegar, celery, and maybe tomato juice (aka "sloppy joes").

...No sauce here, as we say in the Texas hill country sauce is a pit masters way of hiding his mistakes....". AK, OK, MO, NC, etc. all believe a good sauce goes with BBQ like syrup goes with pancakes :)

I agree, and even though I'm a Texan, and shouldn't say such things...I find it hard to believe that poor folk didn't often stretch the meat out with some beans when feeding the family.

But pancakes are merely a syrup delivery medium. To quote Hank Hill: "I prefer my meat to have the flavor of meat." ;)

All this BBQ talk made me hungry, so I had to go get some dinner.

Yeah, yeah. I know. It's on a plate. Still good. :D

Fun idea for a thread! The photos so far are making me hungry. :D

I feel like my life has been lacking good BBQ since we left Arkansas eight years ago. I never found a great BBQ place in Arizona; most of the local places were disappointing. There was a Rudy's, which I liked well enough, so I usually got my BBQ fix there. I'm not sure about Minnesota yet, but I'm not going to get my hopes up. (I ordered chicken fried steak at a local restaurant last weekend, and it came with shredded cheese on top of the gravy.)

I agree about the cornbread, Ron. It's not supposed to be sweet.

Yeah, but let's face it: Hank Hill would've done his barbecuing using only propane, and we all know that ain't right. ;) :D

That is shameful!!!!!!!! Was it at least country gravy with lots of black pepper? I ordered a chicken fried steak in one of those Yankee states once and it came with brown gravy and onions. I guess they got chicken fried steak and liver and onions mixed up.

They did at least get the gravy right.
