Traditional Bone handle day???

Just a thought, but how about just doing this in the " what you totin' " thread, kind of a " here's my tibia Tuesday carry" ?
That way people can play, or not, without adding redundancy...

Skeletuesday? :)

*Probably better than "Skeletombsday--Bring Out Yer Dead Critter Covers" :D

I get it I guess and I can agree to a certain extent. Not sure this was the place to air that concern though. Probably should be a thread of its own.

I love the T-Bone Tuesday idea!! :)

My .02 cents worth...I need to get on track here...I didn't even know we had a "Wooden Wednesday!!!!"..So its T-Bone Tuesday and wooden Wednesday, sounds good now we need some pics..CD

Please don't take this personally rockfolfer it is not personal. I think we have too many of these already and too few threads of substance. On some days you can look on this forum and see nothing but GAWs (nothing wrong with them), the latest GEC whatever (nothing wrong with them), what's in your pocket whatever, should I send it back for whatever, blah blah blah, you get my point. Not to say this stuff is not important because it is but the Traditional Forum is evolving and I for one think not for the better. A rant I have been thinking about for awhile. My $.02 which won't buy diddly. I am sure some will think this inflammatory and maybe it is but it is not personal towards anyone just me perception. Take it with the grain of salt it is served.

I think Brad is saying there's not much of a variety of new topic's like there use to be. Has nothing to do with Wooden Wednesday at all my friend. He's just saying there's a lot of threads that have the same content. I think he wants different subject matter to talk about, maybe more threads were we all can LEARN more and maybe a little more in depth conversations about the different subject matter. That's
what I've taken from his post... Plus I kind of know where he's coming from! Hope this helps??

Jason

I don't know, but as soon as I get to 500 posts in the "what traditional are you totin thread", I'm gonna post a give away.

That being said, I know where Brad is coming from. I kinda took to the Wooden Wednesday thread, but really I don't think a bunch similar threads to that are really warranted. My thoughts are that if folks want to carry wood on Wednesday and share, they can certainly do that and we have the thread I referred to above for posting what we carry on that as well as other days.

Do we need "Toothpick Thursday"s or "Fish Knife Friday"s or "moon pie Monday"s? We can find reasons, but I don't think we need to. I like many of the threads in this forum, but I think we have enough "eye candy" threads.

Rockgolfer- Sorry to post in your thread off topic...

I understand what Brad is saying too. Here is my worthless opinion.

I think forums evolve, but this forum used to be a folksy forum about vintage knives, knife makers that replicate the traditional patterns, and of course a variety of other topics. Many of the folks who posted regularly 4 or 5 years ago have left and don't post anymore. They have their own reasons. GEC knives, Give Away threads, and threads like mentioned above have come to dominate this forum. I think it is kind of how forums go.

What I see often is that new collectors/users find this place (it is the best knife forum on the web) and have unbridled enthusiasm for the hobby, then instantly start buying knives and posting almost every one of them. Some are more creative about how they show their knives and go over the top.... I have done the same. I don't have many neighbors, co-workers who care about my knives.

I'd be happy if GEC would have a manufacturers forum of their own. I'd visit it. I like the product. They would have to provide a moderator. They love this forum, it is their best marketing available...

As far as Wooden Wednesday, and Boner Week goes... well, just not for me either but no big deal. At least this is an active forum, even if the old timers don't visit as much any more with the cool old stuff, and there are not as many old vintage knives to look at as their used to be.

One more suggestion. Make a Give Away sticky thread and focus all giveaways into one spot. The give away threads in this forum are astounding and very cool.

Hah! T-Bone Tuesday, I like it! :)

I think that "T-Bone Tuesday" and "Wooden Wednesday" are good developments; they offer a pleasant diversion, almost like a game, while still allowing us to share our pocket knives with each other (whether they be old, and hence "cooler" (?), or new current production).
While I kind-of agree with some of the organizational ideas that have been expressed here, I'm a little confused as to some of the dissatisfaction that's been presented. What would you guys rather see, other than people sharing pictures, observations, and opinions of their traditional style pocket knives?
Perhaps we should have a little sub-subforum to contain the give-aways, so the Traditional Forum itself doesn't seem "littered" with them... But then, I fear that newcomers and people who don't really contribute much to our community would zero in on it in short order.
Definitely, a GEC subforum would help "clean up" this forum. It does seem, at times, to be dominated by a zillion threads, each one showcasing a single new pocket knife that came out of the tube that morning, many of which are very similar.

Hal, I would also love to participate in "Peachseed Sunday." ;) Maybe once I actually acquire an example....

Regardless, this is still my favorite and most-visited 'place' on the internet, and what I *really*enjoy is connecting with all the people here.

I have thought long and hard about things said in this thread. I have probably typed this response out a few too many times now and no matter how I approach it, it feels like I am preaching or trying to justify my actions when I dont need to. Really is not my place and this is not the space for it. I would love to see a thread started to talk about these "issues" that some have brought to light. I respect everyones opinion but I have received the answers to my initial questions in this thread and will be moving forward on this idea.

I think T~bone Tuesday is the winner(Thanks ~P). People can score bonus points for showing off their knives with a nice T-bone steak in the picture, heck any steak for that matter ;). I will start the official thread late Monday evening, thanks for all the input everyone

I definitely lurk on this forum more than I post and a huge part of that is because of the great picture threads. When I'm stuck in class or sitting at the playground while my daughter is playing with friends I love being able to come to this site to kill time by checking out all the beautiful knives. I'm really looking forward to T-Bone Tuesday and wouldn't mind seeing a stag Saturday at some point.

I am one of the guilty parties turning the postings in a direction lamented by several of you who have a much longer history in this community than do I. I did not think my posts were out of line with the current ethos of the forum when I joined last January. However, I did not read back over the posts from previous years, so I am sorry for not taking the time to get the historical perspective on the character of the forum. It was even pointed out to me in another thread a while back that I have the second highest number of posts in the "totin'" thread, which is embarrassing since I have been here only slightly over a year.

I am a guy who enjoys the aesthetic beauty and craftsmanship of traditional knives, as well as their remarkable usefulness for daily tasks, so that has been the content of my posts. I am not a collector or a craftsman, so I have nothing to offer of value to the technical discussions. Please accept my apology for consuming bandwidth that could have been devoted to the technical elements.

Your beautiful pics of your "traditional" knives that you have shared so kindly with us is a very worthy contribution in my estimation! I for one look forward to seeing your pics in the Totin' thread...
I think many of us here enjoy seeing pictures of traditional knives that we share with each other through our posts here.

T-bone Tues. might just be a cool thread!

There seems to be plenty of room for all kinds of discussions hereabouts...

Hey Doug. We like the pictures dude! There's plenty of room for all of us to post what we like and what interests us. No apology necessary.

I look forward to seeing the thread and posting in it if I have something that fits. Let's see where it takes us.

Doug, I can't be far behind you in the totin thread...

I agree with Gary. If you want to talk about a topic, then start a thread on it. If you don't want to talk about a posted thread topic, then don't open that thread. I don't think BF has a limit on the number of threads.

I have always enjoyed your photos. I can't shoot a decent photo. sometimes I take ten shoots and still don't get a decent one. What I think I'm trying to say is everyone has something different to contribute right?
T- bone and wood days are ok I always look. I would post more but I really pack the same few knives all the time. I own a lot of knives but really there are only usually a half dozen or so in my rotation, and a couple I always pack.
