Traditional carbon knife for nephew?

A lot of good suggestions. I'm partial to Schrades and Case knives, the 194OT or a 503SC (same thing in scrimshaw, maybe with a fish scrim) would be cool. But the Camillus Boy Scout Model 72 3 blade Whittler or one in yellow would be my choice if you can track one down. I have a nephew that is an Eagle Scout. I got him one and he loved it.

case sodbuster jr. in yellow. its under $30 and you cant beat it. as a matter of fact i just picked up a stainless jr at lowes for $18. talk about a deal.

...a knife that will get real sharp with little effort.

That description screams "Opinel". :)

Or you should have no trouble finding a lightly used Old Timer on eBay for about the same price. Only the original USA-made Old Timers are carbon steel though, and even some of them were stainless. The smaller and more common models will be the least expensive. 104OT, 108OT, 12OT, 18OT...

I would also recommend the Older USA Schrades or maybe an Old Boker USA from the bay. Boker USA did alot of contract work for Primble and they usually sell for less than a Primble marked one. Great Carbon in those old Boker USA's.

I have a weakness for antler and bone, so I'd recommend the Case Med. Stockman in Chestnut Bone in CV. With a youngster, more blades is more betta!

Soddie. If it had been my first knife I doubt I would have even looked as many of the tacticool knives I have bought.
