Someone reminded me of this. So I figured I'd pull this back to the front. A watch from my grandfather. I haven't had this one opened to see the condition of the movement, but it's most likely from some time in the 1930's. It had a leather band on it but it was in bad shape. In the background we have a few old knives found in the same drawer.

That’s a great old watch to have from your grandfather! For a guy like me who likes the older stuff I love how the numerals are so big and easy to read...I wouldn’t even need to hold my wrist at arms length without my closeup glasses ;). If you ever decide to have it put back into service I know a good watchmaker. Love the blued hands too. Sweet piece. Don’t ever refinish that dial. Such a great patina there. If it could tell a story or two...

Oh I definitely plan on having it restored, does your watchmaker work on old Elgin watches? It's a little too niche for some of them.

And one thing to remember is the size of old watches! The numerals are big compared to the size of the face, but it's small watch especially compared to modern watches. I haven't measured it, but just eyeballing it compared to some other watches, I'd guess the case is 32mm in diameter not including the crown. Just a smidge smaller than my normal dive watch... 😬 only 10mm or so.

I’ll post on your page so we don’t derail the thread:)
