Traditional Gentlemen's Knives

I think that a gentleman's knife is one that doesn't spoil the lines of a good suit ;)

I like to think that I'm a gentleman, even though I do spoil the lines of a good suit! o_O 🤣

I do however like to consider myself a Gentleman Unencumbered by Wealth or Property 🧐.
That's expressed in a very gentlemanly manner! :thumbsup::thumbsup: 🤓

I'd probably modify the statement to describe myself: a wannabe gentleman fortunately unencumbered by wealth or poverty.
Rough Ryder calls this a Midnight Swirl Gentleman's Sowbelly Stockman, so I'm obligated to post it here (thanks, Todd):

Please, JP, tell us more about that knife.
Very beautiful.

Dan.
It is a knife in quince wood I got from the maker Hiroaki Ohta when he came to the Paris SICAC in 2015. Unlike what the picture shows, he was quite busy, but took time to chat a while (with many gestures 😉). My entrance fee was more than refunded as I paid the knife with a 40% discount to the shops price (and I had the sole quince!).

I was smitten by the sheer class and even more by the original shape of the spring.

Of course she's a wonderful slicer (steel is D2). 😺

His knives are rather scarce, but I have recently seen a cousin of mine in micarta and if there had not been that punctured wallet...

Thanks JP,
Very beautiful well balanced and minimalist (à la japonaise) design. I like everything in this knife.
In 2015 i would have bought it but my wallet is like yours those days , "punctured".

Thank you! That's also my opinion.
Flat wallet are quite common these days... 😌

A gent's knife should be svelte so it fits in the pocket without looking like you are carrying a potato.

B B1GSHOT my friend chuko who passed collected gent's knives. These are all single blade wharncliffes. Top row various makers including Craig Brewer, bottom row all made by Jim Dunlap. Photo is mine.

I don't necessarily consider this a gent's knife, but given what has already been shown in this thread I think it qualifies.

Approximately 20 years ago, Lone Wolf Knives offered a knife designed by Bob Loveless.

The Loveless "City Knife" is the first pocket-knife designed by R. W. (Bob) Loveless. When we asked Mr. Loveless to design a small pocket knife he asked us what style of knife we wanted and we told him to create a folder he would enjoy carrying every day. He smiled and in a few minutes was sketching what would become the "City Knife". Soon the design was completed and he sent a prototype to us. A note with the prototype reminded us to send it back as soon as we were done with it. He really liked this new knife and wanted it back soon! We asked Bob what he thought its name should be and he said "Call it the City Knife! It's perfect for a man to carry when he is in the city doing the cutting chores of city life." We liked the name and loved the knife. This rugged little pocket knife is fit and finished to perfection and rugged enough for any task in your daily routine. The knife is gracefully contoured to fit the hand making it very comfortable to use. This little knife is light, strong, smooth and good looking. The "City Knife" is the ideal companion no matter what your location or destination. The "City Knife" was designed by a living legend and built for you by Lone Wolf Knives. Buy it today, enjoy it for a lifetime.

Though long discontinued, I think the French Sauveterre is a suitable alternative.
