Nice old Robeson. I think the tip bolsters are classy.

The SAK is definitely a gentleman's knife. The other looks like a peasant knife to me.
Interesting,
The other is custom tradititional Japanese higonokami. With R2 damascus blade, mammoth scales, turquoise spacers & giraffe bolsters.
Peasant?😒

The thing that makes it a peasant knife is the pattern. It can be a gold plated peasant knife and still be a peasant knife. The purpose and use of a peasant knife or a gentleman’s knife is reflected in the design, not the materials.

I will happily have to disagree with on that, 1 of the traditional uses of the higonokami was as a students pencil sharpening knife, equivelant of a western pen knife. I don't agree wirh your defination of a peseant knife & under your terms no trappers or whittlers should be listed in this thread.
Happy to agree to disagree.

The way I see it a 'Gentleman's' knife could be any one of dozens of patterns, as long as it has a touch of fancy, a touch of usefulness, a touch of small- one that would be carried for dress by a "Gentleman," or by someone who aspired to that elevated station, if he could get one on his limited means.

Obviously the OP has a very particular type of knife in mind but if we're making allowances for geography and culture then here's a nice example of an Alaskan Gentleman's Knife:

Kershaw "Folding Field" knife, spotted seal skin mitts, beaver ruff. At least, that's what I like to carry when I load up my kayak and go downriver to sell my furs 😜 Handy in case of bear attack but still fine enough to sharpen your quills so you can write those letters home to the missus.
