Traditional Knife Companies (Recommendations)

It's a hard question as most leading companies has better patterns in their lines, so my decision is usually base upon the knife itself. I can say that I have generally warm feelings towards older Case knives, I have Schatt and Morgan lockback whittler that I am using happily, nice older Camillus peanut, Case TB SBJ and others. My first GEC will arrive later this year :D

i've got a beautiful Boker Tree Brand (german not chinese) lock back with washboard bone scales .its so smooth.
when it closes it doesn't snap at all &barely snaps when locking open. Its almost not right but then its just so damn smoothe.
maybe its meant to be like that.
cheers.

in order , those I have of course, many brands missing...

GEC of course, It's becoming spooky on my side, have 11 a bottle opener and a book in less than 2 yrs, 6 more coming..., tubes in the tavern on a shelf and poster on the walls...

GEC.
BUCK.
CASE.

Unfortunately I haven't had the best experience with Queen, but I would buy another in a heartbeat, just to give it another chance.

I'll all about US made knives and GEC is currently my most favorite manufacturer, and based on what I've been getting from them I'm quickly losing interest in new Case knives. I stlll like some of the older Case stuff. I also like German made Bokers and have a couple. I like Queen & S&M okay but prefer to hand pick any knife with those two stamps on them due to minor QC issues I've seen on various occasions. I also like some Buck knives.

Does anyone have a pattern # 331211 conducter. I was wondering if have half stops. also the 620211 ez pocket congress . those are the two patterns i mostly like.

No half stops on the #33 Conductors. The pull on mine is rather light at about a 4.

I don't own a #62 pattern but I would also be interested in knowing if they have half stops.

Case has got to be in the top 3.
Don't have any from GEC, but apparently need to pick one up.
I have one older Queen Barlow that is also pretty impressive.
Is Rough Rider seriously a respected brand?

GEC seems to be really at the top these days. I've had some quality misses with Queen and Case is always a mixed bag between so-so and perfect depending on the knife and pattern.

They are pretty impressive for the price. Very good to excellent fit & finish. The blade steel is satisfactory for most of the things I use a slipjoint for. Never had one with any blade play and all of mine have had good snap.

One thing that I don't like about them is that the bolsters tarnish very easily. Not a big deal though in a knife in this price range.

They also provide a great option for checking out patterns to see if you like them before spending more money.

urrr I think getting a 4 pull would defy the purpose of getting a GEC to me. If a rough rider congress has half stops i would think a $90 GEC would.

AND yes poeple keep your favorite makers coming I would like to here some weird ones. maybe some custom makers.

GEC
Queen
Case

I wouldn't over look Schatt & Morgan, Mooremaker or Canal Street but I have no experience of them.

Of commercial makers, I like GEC and the Queen group's manufactures (incl. Moore Maker especially)

Fight'n Rooster, Eye, Bulldog.

Lots of French commercial makers - Fontenille Pataud, Issard, Laplace, among several others

I'd like a Schrade 194OT

I completly forgot about my imperial kamp king. Thats the knife that make me want something with carbon steel I busted that thing out to day and took it from dull to scarry sharp in about 10 minutes on a sharp maker. What disapoints me about Bucks chinese knives is that old imperial will take a better edge and it being so old STILL has better walk-en-talk that my buck 371
