Traditional Knives and Archery

Very nice setups.
I'm thinking of getting a 45 or 50 pound recurve (30 or 35 pound at my draw length) for small game hunting and target work.

Thanks. Can't go wrong with a good recurve. I like long bows and recurves for target shooting and plinking. You can put a lot more arrows through a traditional bow than you can a compound bow in the same amount of time.

Two latest.
The D&Q takedown recurve (70 pounds at 28 inch, 47.3 pounds at my pathetic draw length) is thanks to Uncle Joey.
The Creative XP compound bow (adjustable draw length and draw weight, allegedly up to 70 pounds at my short 23.5 inch draw length) are thanks to Uncle Joey.
This is and "upgrade' from my "60 pound" Diamond Razor Edge, which only goes to 63.57 pounds.

Still inbound are a Mongolian 60 pounder and 50 pounder (at 28 inches. I'll get roughly 15 to 20 pounds less at my draw length) horsebows. I'm pretty sure they will only be for ventilating paper and the (life size) 3D Buck Deer that Uncle Joey's gift let me get. :D

I got into archery 31 yrs. ago to extend my hunting season. Shot a compound for the first two years then got hooked on longbows for about 6yrs. From there I decided I wanted to make my own primitive bow and hunt with it, that was around 1998. Hobbies get out of hand as I'm sure some of you know and I've been making and hunting with them since.
I've made around 150 Native American style self bows and given away about half of them. I guess you could call me a hoarder since the house is full of bows. Some hang in the den as shown in the pic below, some in other parts of the house or basement. Fun thing about these are that no two are exactly alike. :)

4th and last bow bought with the funds Uncle Joey sent, finally arrived on 05/29/21. (ordered it 04/07/21)
Obert 50 pound draw horsebow. My effective draw weight is 32.5 pounds. "good enough" to put holes on paper targets or my 3D buck deer ... presuming I can learn how to shoot it and hit the target instead of the dirt 7 to ten feet right and a "few" feet short of where I'm aiming.

I fear that right now, I'd have difficulty hittng the broadside of a barn ... while inside said barn ...
I must be doing something (or several somethings) wrong. With the compound bow I can get nice tight groops at 20 and 30 yards. With the horsebows ... I'm lucky to get inside 10 feet of the arrow stop ... from 10 yards.
(10 yards so I'm less likely to lose arrows in the grass.)

Yes, I cut the arrows to 24 inches. With the ferrels to use screw-in arrowheads I'll have 25 inch arrows. More than long enough for my pathetic draw length.

I still haven't figured out how the bow holster/3 arrow quiver is supposed to be worn.

Thats a nice looking bow. I've had the chance to shoot a couple of horse bows in similar designs to yours in the past, real performers and fun to shoot. Enjoy.:)

Another new bow. This one a Turkish Short Bow/Horsebow. (can be used when dismounted) Only 40 inch OAL strung. 😊
50 pound draw at 28 inches. My draw weight scale says 43.88 pounds at my draw length. Hunting legal, if I ever get to go hunting again -- and learn to shoot it accurately ...

I still want to get a 71 inch Hickory English Longbow, but it is going to have to wait until May or June. I need to renew my DL in April.
