Traditional Safe Queens?

Trand, I would use one carefully (by which I mean not cutting anything that would patina the blade). Several of my collection were bought used, although you couldn't tell it by looking at them, they're all 99% + condition. The ram horn #53s that I have 2 of, they only made 11, so not many of those left out there either. My avatar half congress in tortoise they only made 4, but I do carry it occasionally, as it is stainless and I'm pretty easy on knives.
That's cool, get more enjoyment out of them too :) And I remember that #61 when it popped up on a dealer's site for like a day. I think it was before my first #61 arrived. It was of course gone by the time it did arrive and I had decided I liked the pattern. But that would have been a safe queen too.

single blade #48s? :D
Some sure. These are 1 of 3/2/2/3. I missed out on two 1 of 1s which would have completed the set.

These are 1 of 4/4/10/10/11/8

And this one is 1 of 5

I would use other knives before I got to these but I think if all those other knives disappeared and I was down to just these, I would put them in my pocket and use them. So I'm not sure how much they are safe queens really. Same as I wouldn't use this proto as its my only prototype but I'm already using a different one only differentiated by not having the blade etche.

Just my Marbles Trailcraft. If I ever return to dear hunting it will get used. Oh, that ram horn 53 is to die for!

Here are a few . . .

Great thread idea! Some beautiful and humbling knives on here. I am still in my first year of traditional knives but I do a bit of both. I belong to the school of..I can only have so many users at a time. and even then I have my favorites..usually my 77 sheepsfoot barlow. My safe queens are mostly TC barlows right now due to how much I love them, pretty rare, and hold their value. The ez redbone spear is the only user in the bunch.

Great thread with some great pictures. Gus, that Bradshaw whittler is still one of my favorites. I have a fair amount of safe queens compared to users.

What IS a safe queen???:D:D:D

Many knives I don't connect with, then I hope to sell them or better still swap them at a later date-best leave them in good shape obviously.

Other knives, cheap or costly, great or small I carry and use because I enjoy them irrespective of their 'desirability' in others' eyes. It's why I'll never understand those I'm only using one knife thread, just too limiting and our lives are limited as it is!

Thanks, Will

Most of my collection would qualify as safe queens although I keep them in lined drawers where I can pick them up and enjoy them easily. I have some EDC pieces, but I am a collector first. Here is a sampling.
Some are new customs:

Old and rare knives are in a different category Charles, I agree. Some sense of preserving vanishing items for future generations of connoisseurs I feel. Grand work!

My latest arrival is an 83 Lockback in Sambar Stag. It will be used:thumbup:

Thanks, Will
