Hey everybody,

Finished this blade a little while ago and been holding onto it. It my favorite sword by far, but I had some big bills come through so I need to sell it to get some quick cash. I will be really sorry to see this one go, but bills come first.

This is a light, small wakizashi that I built to be as fast and agile as possible while still going with a traditional design. A San Mai blade, cable Damascus sandwiching a 1095 core, distal tapered, with a gorgeous hamon . The fittings are textured copper and wrought iron, Full rayskin wrap on the handle and silk ito. The saya is tiger maple in a high gloss finish. The tang is nearly the full length of the handle and secured by a sturdy micarta pin. The blade is convex ground and wickedly sharp. For those of you who like lists;

Here are the specs:
22.5" OAL
Blade 15.75" Handle 6.75"
Blade is cable around a 1095 core tapering from .2" to .1" about an inch and a half from the tip
The sword weighs just under 3/4 lbs and just under 1lb with the saya
The balance point is about 1/2" down the blade from the front of the habaki making the blade very light in the hand
Textured copper and wrought iron fittings
Silk ito and Micarta pin

Sold Pending funds for quick sale (hopefully.) If you are interested in the blade please contact me via PM or at Knifemaker87@gmail.com. Money order or Paypal(plus 3%) The sword is ready to ship pending payment. let me know if you would like more pictures of a specific part or angle.

Forging a knife seems to be a challenge, but making a sword like this with proper taper and convex edge, yep, that's art! How do you sharpen a long blade like that if I may ask? Slack belt sander? Rocking motion on a platen? By hand?
Thanks, great work!

thanks! It is actually just like forging a knife. If you get the geometry correct early in the process everything works out. it is especially particular here though as you want the "core" to stay in the center of the blank.

As for sharpening, i use a flat platten to get the basic geometry true before using a slack-belt to rough in the convex edge. Then i draw file the blade before heat treating. the curve of the blade is dictated by the quench, so work on a straight blade is a little easier. i get it pretty close before heat treating, then i go back and finish slack belting it before doing the final finishing with sandpaper by hand.

thanks!

Thanks a lot Chris. That's a lot of work and sword for that price!! I also saw another thread from you making a carbon fiber handle camp knife! Awesome! Keep that work up and I wish I was a sword user/collector, I would take this one!

That is really fine work; I'm not much into swords, but if I were, I'd be all over this one!
