Who are your five favorite makers of traditional pattern slipjoints?

Mine are:

Eugene Shadley

Joel Chamblin

Tom Overeynder

Bill Ruple

C. Gray Taylor (never had one though)

Now here's the tough question.

Who's you favorite slipjoint maker who can make you a really nice knife for under $1000???:)

Come on now...Tony Bose isn't the only one who can make a knife. And he definately ain't doin' anything for under a grand!!!

Bose is a great name in slipjoints. Maybe the best. But there are other makers who can do comparable work.

If you are fortunate enough to aquire a Bose directly from Either Tony or Reese you will be blown away at how affordable they are many many patterns under a grand
Its the aftermarket where you get hit

OK, there are a few good slipjoint makers and Reese is comparable but most don't have that Bose look that I like so much.

Maybe...I've never seriously looked at a Bose price list for his knives. I've always just seen what they go for from the various custom brokers via the internet.

The brokers may be jacking the price up on the highly sought after knives but someone's willing to pay the price because they never seem to last very long before they are sold.

But hey...If I really wanted one that badly I might pay the premium for the right knife just so I wouldn't have to stand at the end of the Bose waiting line!!!

Can't say I haven't thought about it!!!

BTW sunfishman I just realized who you are!!! You make some righteous knives your-own-damn-self.

I only live one state away (Oklahoma) and have three ponds full of Channel cats and Bluegill perch. Trades excepted!!!:D

I'm a Rogers fan too. He currently has a gorgeous stockman w/ MOP scales on Bob Neal's website.

Bill Ruple, Tony & Reese Bose, Richard Rogers, Joel Chamblin, Rick Nowland, Eugene Shadley, T.R. Overeynder, C. Gray Taylor, David Taylor and Hiroaki Ohta.

Two other Primo Slipjoint Makers
Jack Davenport and Ryu Kawamura

Under $1000

Favorties that I own or owned:

Chamblin
Kawamura
Ruple
Ohta
Montell

Others:

Moore
Morrow
Cover
Nowland

Ray Cover definately make a great slipjoint at a reasonable price.

J.B. Moore's knives are also reasonable, and nicely made.

Two that I have owned that are equally impressive are J.R. Preston and Joe Allen. Both of these guys offer fine workmanship.

Gary Crowder makes very nice slipjoint and his prices are reasonable. He does good filework and he lives in eastern Oklahoma. My son has one of his knives.

The hard part about getting a slipjoint from one of these great slipjoint makers for under $1,000 is getting on their order list, first, and the wait period, second. The Shadley's you posted earlier were $1,000 knives from the purveyor, but would have been less if straight from Eugene.

A Bose would be the ultimate. There will be a few lucky slippie fans after their drawing at Blade this year.

Sunfishman makes some great slipjoints himself, if he is not putting out wicked bowies or fancy gents. Throwing some fishing in the mix will keep his cost down!! :)

Yes...will trade for fish. I'm keeping the ponds and the land that go with them.

There's largemouth bass too. But I noticed on your website you prefer catfish and sunfish.

Seriously if you're ever in southern Ok. let me know and you're more than welcome to a day of fishing...no charge.

Thanks man! I may surprise you one day :)

I'm hearing pretty good things about Jerry Hafrich. This friend keeps teasing me with pictures, I better get an order in.
