Traditional Straight Razor

I wave been shsving with a straight razor since 1997. I still use a gillet when in a hurry but for the most part I use the trusty. I have a small collection of twenty or so antiques. I use "Granddads" bay rum shaving soap. I do take orders for razors but don't make alot of them.

Shrek, as soon as I make one green it is yours.

Nice work, Bill. I don't own any but a friend of mine tells me it's the only way to shave properly. Someday I'll take the plunge but since I usually sport a 5 o'clock<the next day> shadow it hasen't been a priority. :D

Bill,

Looks great! Just wondering what you use to put the final edge on before shaving. I am guessing you go a bit beyond the old Norton Fine India.

Best,

John

Well, Yes and No John. I still use a norton stone redish on one side and blackish on the other. But this one is made for sharpening razors. I got it from a freind who went to barber collage in the seventies. After the stone I use a strop, canvas side first to clean the new edge of any loose grit and debri from the stone. Then the smooth grain side of the leather to polish and align the edge. There are still two working barber shops in Salmon Idaho where I lived when I started making knives and I talked with both of the barbers there as well as my freind, about the finer points of sharpening honing and stropping a razor. And although all three used a little diffrent technique and stone in the sharpening stage they all told me NOT to put anything on the leather of my strop so i don't. Hope this wasn't too long winded.

I really like straight razors, and especially this one.
Got to get me one some day.
Nice job Bill.
