Traditional Trepidation

Frank, will that thing fit in a '59 Caddy? It would be BAD^$$!! :D

Have to mount it on a fuel tanker so you'd have enough gas to go down to the corner.

I've decided to just use the heck out of my GEC Bullnose and pair it with a VIC Cadet II Plus. I can't make it through a day without needing the screwdrivers or a scraper/poker doojiggy.

Frank, what components do you make? Great pic! I work in a small test facility with only four employees, all ex-air force jet guys. It gets fun!

I take less serious looking work photos: (think slingblade)

Well there's a difference between USE and HARD USE. I use all of my knives, not one was bought as a collector piece. IMO it's the only way to genuinely enjoy a knife. But if you need a knife around those sorts of chemicals/fluids I'd get a less expensive knife with synthetic handles.

Mark, I agree that using a knife hard is the only way to get the full experience. I wish I could post pics of when I worked at the proving grounds, but we were not even allowed to have camera phones. Drat :-p

I have to draw on my own experience. There is no reason not to use a custom traditional. Case and GEC make knives that cater to collectors, but that does not mean you can't use these versions if you choose because they are in every way functional knives. I personally try to use my "Sunday best" traditionals in light duty situations and to use other knives in my "accumulation" for heavy use, harsh environments, etc.

It seems that some of our modern knife bretheren take joy in using their knives in very harsh duty. Not that there is a problem with what they do; they pay their money just like I do and can use their knives how they like. I just don't do that sort of thing with any of my knives.

As far as your traditional goes, use it just like you would any knife of the same pattern, if you choose. It will work fine. You will enjoy the use of it. Let your original thoughts about why you bought it guide your use. If you bought it as a collector piece, then don't use it. If you bought it thinking you would use it, then by all means do so.

Just some random thoughts.
