Which ones got away from you over the years? I'm sure a good number of us have one or two knives that got away from us over the years, either lost, sold or seemingly vanished. For me I haven't ever lost a traditional, but I have sold a few that I wish I would have never let go. However there is one specifically that I sold here on BF years ago that haunts me, an ebony Northwoods Presidential. I have no clue why I sold it, I carried it quite often and always enjoyed doing so, guess it was just one of those things lol. So what's one that you wish you still had?

Interesting idea for a thread!!Bose WT at 3 years.jpg
Here is a Wharncliffe Trapper, by Tony Bose RIP!! He carried it for a year or so before I got it!! After using it for 4 years, I needed some cash, and sold it, to my regret!! When he passed away, I really regretted it - he was a good friend!!:(

The last knife of my collection that I let go. I still regret it.View attachment 3192677
Those stag 73's were so good!!!! I'd be missing that one as well.

That is a beautiful Trapper, made better by the fact that the man himself had carried. Getting something like that from someone you consider a friend adds so much value to it, cannot imagine regretting something like that.

There was a blue bone Schrade ProHunter years ago that I let go past me on ebuy....but the one that the knife god smacks me on the head with is my Waynorth City Stock....I got it as a 60th birthday present( to myself)...dropped it in a drain in Sydney, got the fire brigade to help me retrieve it...Then lost it...I think it went through a hole in my shorts pocket while I walked through the forest...😔

Technically, these didn't get away, because I know where they are.

After our Mom passed away, the family was getting the old homestead ready for auction. Mom was always very organised, which made things easier. My son was bringing things down from the attic, and came up to my one brother & me with a cigar box. He opened it up, and it was full of old Barlows, scout knives, jack knives, etc.

They were knives that we thought we lost when we were kids. Most had either my brother's or my initials crudely scratched on the scales. We chicken eyed, and coon fingered them a bit, then gave the whole box to my son. Finders keepers.:)

This big jack I sold here on the forums. My wife bought it for me off my wishlist and I carried it for a good while, but it was a little big for what I usually like. Now I think about it often and kick myself for letting it go.
I saw a 39 smooth autumn gold bone that I need to go after as a spiritual replacement for this one in a better size for me.

I was addicted and sold a Mnandi with green and blue mammoth ivory. I have always regretted that transaction. I just can’t post a picture. If anybody has one like it, I’ll buy it.

I haven't sold any yet. I have given some away, to forum members here and elsewhere. They were all freely given, with no lingering regrets. I hope the recipients all have enjoyed them, or passed them on to others who did.

My main "ones that got away" regrets were knives that I could have bought but passed on at the time. I was around for the time when GECs would still actually sit in dealer inventory for a while and not sell out. There were a few I took too long mulling over. At the time, they were all in the $80 to $100 range which I thought were a bit pricey. Little did I know!

I also just missed out on the Spring Street Barlow Forum Knife - I was busy at work that week and just missed the ordering cutoff.

All in all, though, I have what I consider a quite nice collection for my tastes and budget, most unused or underused. I suppose I am acting as a storage buffer to eventually release these to some future generation of knife collectors through selling here, or through my estate sale.
