Tragic Irony

question for the universe:

if you hadn't been putting on a lanyard so as no to drop the knife, would you have ever dropped the knife?

Or, now hear me out... leave it in the sheath with the top clasp undone, but the lower one still fixed to
keep the sheath on and protect your edge, pets, appendages, shoes, floors, carpet padding and carpet itself, cement and (hrm... I know I'm forgetting something) Oh yea, your tip!

NJBillK, that's a good tip. :)

Still too soon?

Broke the tip off my favorite CRKT M-16 trying to pry a bullet out of a post. Cleaned it up and for years was a reminder to use the right tool. Looks like you did a good job cleaning it up.

I was sitting on my couch the other day opening mail or something and my 17 slipped falling tip first and it didn't even scratch it!! Luckily the inside of my shin and toe on my right foot stopped it and boy did it slice skin and flesh easily!

I predict that 16 will become your favorite fixed blade knife!

That's a bummer. It's tough to get the point back to the original angle. Glad it didn't chip or anything though!

The nice thing is I bought this 16 from Dex who offered to touch it up for me down the road after I told him about my clumsiness. So with that piece of mind, I feel pretty good beating the heck out of this one.

If that had hit your foot...

Much more expensive "accident". Also fun to explain to the ER staff. Bummer for sure but always remember things could be worse.

At least your reaction wasn't to reach down and catch it before it hit the ground, had a friend of a closer friend do that while flipping her brand new BM51, ended up grabbing the blade like it was the handle, cut up the insides of her fingers pretty good. Thankfully my first reaction when dropping knives is the jump out of the way. Better to have a dented tip than a dented hand/foot.

This is awesome to hear, maybe the best news in this thread :)

Someone call M. Night Shyamalan. I got the twist ending. My 16 tried to return the favor by taking one of my tips off. Here it is after I poured on something called Wound Seal. The only way I could stop the bleeding after 3 hours.

It hasn't been a stellar start for me and this 16. I'm going to call it Hulk, because you DO NOT bring this guy out unless you're really sure you need him.

You sure you don't want stitches on that? Not a doctor here but a would that bleeds for 3 hours typically means you probably need stitches...

Yeah, if it almost takes a tip off, and you bled that long, it may be a good idea to have a doctor take a look.

... And I'm over here using my 14 to stab open cans of beans lol. It's my beater :) I use it instead of a screwdriver all the time. A little stropping on my Herold Solingen strop and its slicing paper again

I called a doctor when it happened. Sent pics. Severity was borderline, but the concern was keeping the cut closed. The Wound Seal seems to be doing that though. If it has problems today, I'll go to the ER tonight.
