Traiditionals: to pair with modern folder or to not

I have modern folders but I try not to carry them when possible. The ones I do carry look very traditional in one way or another; but per this forum are defined as modern. (Pocket clip and thumb stud) I carry these because sometimes I just can't use two hands to open a knife, and sometimes I need to be able to get to the knife without digging. I'd rather just use a fixed blade for this, but many times a fixed blade isn't an option. I always carry a traditional, I like using them more. I like how they feel, I like how they look, they are just more enjoyable to use. So for me pairing a traditional with a modern folder is more out of necessity, but I do also like the variety.

I've been pairing modern knives with my traditional knives for about a year now, but I'm thinking about just carrying one knife from now on. Do you guys carry both traditional and modern knives at once or just traditional knives?

Hello,

I carry one knife most of the time and when I am in the woods/wilderness or camping, I take two of them. They are in my fanny pack most of the time in their own pocket for easy access.

I don't use any modern folding knives. I do not want an assisted opening knife or whatever the official word is for them. I want to open a folding knife with BOTH hands. I am picky about all folding knives due to my arthritis.

I am carrying a Buck Ranger skinner FB knife more and more. I am trying out MORE fixed blade knives now too. I am leaning more and more to carrying fixed blade knives including some traditional styles that my husband gave me and a classic looking, sweet custom made one too.

(I may get a paid membership here and have my husband put up some KNIFE pictures for me since I have never done that. He always did that for me on a couple of former, private and public, gun boards in the past. He posted several of our former and present guns, some of his knives, our range pictures and targets, scenery and vacation pictures.)

My folding knife is a Buck 110.

I consider my Buck knives listed above and my Buck 55 'traditional style knives' but I could be wrong.

Big question here:

Is the Buck FB Vanguard considered 'traditional' or not and what about the Buck Woodsman 102? I am confused so please excuse me here.

Take care!

The only modern folder I carry is my Mini grip. I beat the living snot out of it on a daily basis. However, I always carry a traditional knife of some type, and use it equally as much. As folksy as I am, I see the value in carrying both.

Hey Cate, Both of those Buck knives belong here in the Traditional forum. :)

On the weekends I always have both a modern and traditional folder. During the week at work, its traditional only so I like the variety the weekend allows:)
They both get the job done, but why not carry and enjoy more than one at a time?

Personally I find myself carrying an OHO and a trapper of some flavor on most days. Sometimes the OHO is replaced by a fixed blade. If I only have one knife with me it is always a traditional.

Similar to Gary, I frequently carry both a one-hander and a traditional, but if I only have one knife on me, it's a traditional.
