What are some of your favourite 'comfort' items/products that you like to pack for the great outdoors? Cigars? Chewing gum? An inflatable pillow? Little things that might help make your trip a tad more enjoyable...

Just kind of curious to hear about your 'non-essentials'... :)

Mini-Snickers candy bars.

Candle Lantern. I don't really *need* it (i use a head-lamp) and it doesn't do enough to justify it's weight, but it's "comforting" to have in my tent.

Hands down it has to be my Thermarest mattress and chair converter pad for my mattress. The chair makes chilling at camp much more comfortable and the pad makes for a great night's sleep. These are the two essential "non-essential" items that must be on every trip.

Usually a book.
Summer backpacking trips I bring a few of those small soda cans of Coke.
One of those cooled in a mesh bag in a glacier fed stream is VERY SATISFYING !!!!

2.75 inch thick thermarest. Sometimes I get better sleep on that then I do at home.

A blow up doll with a Chuck Norris mask. If predators see that I'm with Chuck, they leave us alone. Plus, I have company on those long solo trips.

Really, I have to have a small pillow and my Ridgerest pad. It's my seat as well, though one of those chair convertable things seem appealing. Hot tea or coffee, I'd live without it, but I'd be less happy in the morning.
I would be pretty miserable without a ground pad, in pain maybe.

My pipe and some Borkem Riff tobacco.

Yup....the pipe :) Although I wouldn't specify a single tobacco as it is going to depend on the day, time of year and all that good stuff. Too many blends for me to say that one is my woods blend :)

depends on what I'm drinking, but beer, whiskey and rum often find their way in my pack, sometimes all 3. Always worth the extra weight. I'll bring instruments, tea, coffee, and make good food on the trail, usually starting with a couple of cuts of steak, with potatoes, onions... and a brick of Hershey's Symphony.
