From the info I can find, these coupler links are wrought iron. Does anyone know for sure? I picked this up at a yard sale today.

Study up on how to determine wrought, then let us know...
Fwiw,
If its a railway coupler its likely made before 1910 or so, but some propriortory railways had links in service for sometime later.

I do know the basics on determining wrought but I wanted to ask before I started cutting it up. From what I could find on the web, it's most likely wrought but source material is sparse.

You could have a little grind at the corner of it, to get a clue before outright cutting it... compare to some known wrought and some known mild.

A small clean spot at 400 grit and an etch would tell the tale. Or, look at the sparks when grinding, that'll most likely tell you.

Even if it is not wrought, it would make for some interesting provenance for guard material.
