Training around Baltimore

Howdy, folks.

I'm new to the forums. I've been wanting to start martial arts training for a long time, but for some reason the "standard" stuff like karate never really appealed.

I've always liked knives, as well, but never got any training. I also don't think for a second that I could hold by own in a fight just by reading a book or watching a video.

Someone recently pointed me in the direction of the FMA and the more I've read the more interested I've gotten.

I was looking through the yellow pages, but didn't see much. I live on the north side of Baltimore, MD, and pretty much every school I saw is at least a half-hour's drive.

That wouldn't be such a problem except that I often work 12hr (or more) days ending around 7-8pm, with 36hr overnight shifts on average once a week. About 3 of every four weekends are free (But that's unpredictable, too).

Simple, huh?

Does anybody know of any schools or training groups that would accept rank beginners and have weekend classes, preferably north of Baltimore?

The one bright spot is that my schedule is likely to get much better in late summer, so I may be able to start then.

I'm mainly interested in unarmed and blade techniques now, but who knows what I'll get interested in when I start?

Hi,

We just started a training club about a month ago down in Columbia, MD. Our current schedule is Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 8-10 PM. We generally train an hour of JKD/Kickboxing, and then an hour of Inosanto Blend Kali. Our group is open to anyone interested. You can check out more information at http://www.trainingblades.com

my cousin is opening a club in washington dc southeast (off of east capitol street, near RFK). the class is going to begin in may 1.

you can visit my website on my profile, the number is there.

Thanks much for the help, gentlemen. I think I probably will have to delay beginning until late Spring or early summer, but I may be paying visits before then.

Again, thanks.

I know Frederick, MD is a bit of a hike, but our main training sessions are on saturday afternoons.

We do empty hands and knife, stick & sword in their various combinations, as well as long weapons and flexible weapons. We teach a mix of Pekiti-tirsia and Pentjak Silat which have been modified based upon 20+ years of testing in full-contact fighting.

If you are interested in coming by sometime, just let me know.

Respectfully,

Dave Fulton
