Sooooo...
If you were going to be making some trainer blades that need to take impact, would you go with polypropylene or ABS? Or something else?

I think I'd avoid ABS. The airsoft props I've had that were made from ABS weren't very impact resistant. PVC does pretty well for impact resistance though, as does polypropylene. I'm pretty sure Cold Steel's trainers are made from polypropylene.

UHMW is definitely tough and will take a lot of impact. The only drawback is it doesn't like to be ground to shape (IME). You can cut it with a knife or machine it to a very nice, smooth finish. You're going to have a hell of a time forging it ;) :D

On paper, poly seems like a very good option, but I have zero real world experience doing anything with it.

How big are the training blades going to be James?

I'm thinking of waterjetting some training tomahawks from plastic sheet and rounding the corners with a router. 12" to 18" OAL. I've used UHMW for the ram guide surface on my power hammer. I'll take a look at it in comparison with the polypropylene.

Thanks, guys!
