Tramontina !!!!!!

Yup! That's what I'm talkin' about! Okay, I haven't really been talking about it, but now that I see that picture, well...

I really like that, Joe. What's it called, how much are they, and where do I get one?

Any details Joe? I'd be interested. Get a kydex sheath made for it and it would be great for all around use. Ever since I got my outcast I had been wishing there was something similar to it but alot thinner for slicing purposes.

This would also be a beast in the kitchen.

Tramonita...those machetes are great, but im chopping through my third one :). I find that they are not good at hammering

Thanks for the comments

Yeah Pict, I noticed that coating on the blade. I thought maybe it was polyeurethane.

I guess one can get too hung up on hygiene. And I have to say that leather is my first choice for a sheath. For a lot of my working life I was involved with a big fish processing factory where hygiene was paramount. Everything had to be made so it could be stripped and cleaned as necessary.

The plastic handle in Joezilla's picture looks like it has a nice shape.

I really like these little machetes. When you think about how much they can do, and how little they cost compared to other things, they have to represent some of the best value for money in existence.

A Tramontina machete, a Mora sheath knife and maybe a second hand axe can probably all be purchased together for the equivalent of maybe three hours wages or less.

I'll take two right now, as those models aren't available locally. How much?

They are so reasonably priced that a friend and I ground the edges and tips completely off about a dozen of them so our fellow Filipino Martial Arts students could train with something closer to live blades. It's funny---I've been a "knife guy" so long that I really felt bad about grinding edges and points off even these inexpensive blades.:o But it would have cost a lot more to buy manufactured training weapons.

"Pict" has posted some good threads here on the cool things/mods he's done with his machetes, look for them if you can, he knows his stuff! ;)

many prefer the plastic handle because it doesn't splinter and dry out and break over time (cheap wood used)
and just as easy to customize/shape to your hand.

one thing I did with mine was put "grip-tape" I got from walley world (4-5 bucks and does many, in the racket/sports) to prevent
slippage and suck up my sweat;

I also got some inexpensive nylon sheaths from ontario for them too.

Maybe joezillas machetespecialist buddy will get some of these short Tramontinas in stock next year?
I'm thinking of ordering a Condor Golok from them but i may wait if new goodies will be listed there soon.
