With my 1 knife ( plus small necker ) for 6 month experiment coming up fast I have been rotating through my current knives before locking them away.

Today was the turn of my beloved Knatchet !

I decided to make a modified fig 4 trap. First job was to split the wood ~

Then to square off and tidy up my two sections~

A little notching and refining finished the trap ~

I looked for a deadfall weight and set it up ~

Only took one pic of the girls today. If Snicker is looking different it's because she left the house a girl and came back in a woman~ yep she killed her first rat today !!!
It didn't happen like I'd have liked, I checked the trap under my shed and a rat was caught by it's back end and still very much alive. I lifted the spring bar and one injured and very pi$$ed off rat dropped to the floor.
The moment it was free Snicker snatched it up and shook it like a dog possessed. She'd shook it so hard that both it's guts and eyes were hanging out......nice to see eh :barf: Snicker then strutted round the garden like she'd just defeated Mike Tyson, getting her to drop it was another matter !!!!

Great post as always, Pit. What is up with keeping your knives held hostage. If you need a safe place for you PDM knife, I can hook you up..

I love traps. I only know a select few, but I really enjoy them. Thanks for sharing the pics of Maisy and the TT. Always a joy seeing them.

Hi Pit -

Nice job on the figure four - the Knatchet is a notching fool!

Thanks for the pictures.

best regards -

Thanks for the kind ( and funny ) comments as always guys...much appreciated !;)

Nice pics as always Pit, makes me wonder what you're teasing those poor dogs with :)

Ya know, I'm really not into wide bladed knives, but I tend to view that one as one of the most useful looking hatchets i have ever seen.

Love the knatchet. Wish I could get one, tried to get one b4 JK quit making them. I know Mark is forging them but they just did ever have the same lines as the JK models.

I will be making them again, starting in late November.

I think until you use a Knatchet you don't get a very good understanding of how handy a tool they are. I find I can make traps and such much faster using this than using dedcated Bushcraft knives. I'l be the first to admit that spoons made using the Knatchet look a bit rough but for notching trap triggers and making frog gigs etc it excels.
It always looks a little larger in pics than it really is. When you think this is 3/16" stock on a convexed edge tapering down over about 3" blade height then you realise that this is one hell of a slicer and not just a chopper !

Really enjoy your post Pitdog. I'm imagining the comparison between the Booshway and the Knatchet

I guess it depends on what you are trying to catch but I am curious as to what you use as bait? I presume it is set on the pointed end before the setup given the sensitivity of the trap right? Thanks for the detailed pics.

I've set them up before with small apples pushed on the point but peanut butter appears to work for most small critters and you can smear it all over the bait stick.
