So I've had a Case Trapper CV in dark red bone for about a year but never carry it. As you can see in the pic, the blades have no patina on them.

I find it to be too big to carry comfortably. I want to carry it in a pocket but the problem is it always falls sideways and feels really uncomfortable in the bottom of my pocket since it's long even when closed. By comparison, I can carry my peanut loose in the bottom of my pocket and I don't even know it's there.

How do you guys that carry a Trapper carry them? I'm looking to give my Trapper some love (use). I know Case has a sheath for Trappers, but I don't like anything on my belt.

I ended up carrying a Case Backpocket model quite a bit this week. I generally prefer knives at 3.5" or less in my front pocket for the same reason. I got away with the big Backpocket by carrying my wallet in the same pocket, knife up next to it. It kept the knife vertical and didn't fall over and get on my nerves.

The other option is to just carry it until you're used to it. I've gotten used to other big knives just by carrying it nonstop, but a full size trapper is always gonna be a beast...

Yep....know the feeling, solve it by getting a leather pocket slip from Collectors Knives ( Mike ) or Knivesshipfree ( Derrick ) and it’ll ride more comfortably...

That's a great idea carrying it next to your wallet in the back pocket to keep it vertical.

Do you carry it on the outside or inside side of your wallet? I'm trying to imagine which would be more comfortable since I'm in my PJ's right now.

I made this about two years ago because I carry my comb and knife in my front left pocket. The knife and comb used to lay sideways- making my pocket feel distorted. They both now lay vertical and I have carried 4"+ knives in it quite comfortably. Plus, the way I have it stitched between my comb and knife allow it to contour with my leg and it really goes unnoticed. Matt

I actually was carrying my wallet in my front pocket - I've tried carrying in my back pockets before and had the knife slip out.

I'm more a back pocket wallet guy, but I made an exception this week... I took a picture with a Boker 1 blade trapper yo kind of show how I dropped it in my pocket. Definitely the weirdest selfie I've ever taken20171217_104335-1494x2656.jpg

When I carry a full-sized knife like a Case Trapper or Case Large Stockman, I carry it vertically in a back pocket. I usually carry a flattish notepad (Moleskine cahier) in the same pocket so it fits beside that. It may end up horizontal in the pocket but that doesn't really bother me.

I have also in the past carried a pocket knife vertically beside my leather wallet in my left rear pocket. While comfortable, it eventually wore holes in my pants where the corner of the bolster rubbed. This was more pronounced with squared-bolster knives like the Case Small Texas Jack.

I always limited my pocket knives to 3 5/8" max. Then I bought this 4" Lloyd trapper which I can't seem to leave at home. It's about 7/16" thick. Here's my solution. That's a front pocket wallet, which I did awhile ago. The slip pouch keeps the knife vertical against the wallet. I don't mind the few extra seconds it takes me to fish the knife out of my pocket and pouch, so it works for me. Sorry for the crummy focus.

I found that jeans pockets tend to be proportional. I can carry a Mini Trapper sized knife no problem, but the regular Trapper takes up too way much space for me. I have friends that are taller than me pocket carry a full size trapper in the front jeans pocket no problem.

I just drop my full size (4 1/8" +-) trapper or a stockman that is roughly the same size (give or take 1/8") in my pocket. I prefer a knife that lays in the bottom of my pocket. They don't poke me in the leg that way.

Thanks for the advice. I've tried a front pocket wallet before but I ran out of room for my keys.

My current carry for all my stuff is:
Keys front left pocket
Phone front right pocket
Wallet back left pocket

I'm going to try standing it up in my back left pocket next to my wallet and see how it works.

I had most of my jeans (I tend to wear Duluth Trading Co. 5 pocket jeans) modded by a lady I know that sews on the side. She runs a seam vertically on the crotch side of the pocket about 3/4" in for 3 or 4 inches. Basically making a knife size pocket in the pocket that holds the knife up right. It's kinda hard to explain. A pocket divided into two with one short division being knife size. Imagine reaching into your pocket and your pointer finger would slide into a pocket. That's where your knife goes. I got the idea from DTC work pants that have this. I carry a large stockman this way.--KV

I like my knives to ride horizontally at the bottom of my pocket but if I preferred vertical carry this is the option I would go with. I've seen pictures of this set up and it looks like a very simple and effective solution aside from buying pants with a dedicated leg pocket or similar.

Knives longer than about 4" for me get carried in the watch pocket of my jeans, vertically. I'm large, and the jeans I get have a plenty deep pocket to securely hold even a 5" closed pocket knife. If I'm not wearing jeans, I usually go smaller than 4" closed.

Now that's a great idea!! I might have to ask the wife because I'm inept at sewing. I've HAD to sew a button on my uniform while in the Navy a couple times and even that was challenging.

I've seen this solution suggested in previous threads, and although I've never tried it, if I regularly carried 4" knives, it's the approach I'd take. (I've seen both front pocket and back pocket versions of the "pocket-within-a-pocket" proposed.)

When I do carry big knives, I've found that having them in a leather slip in the leg pocket of carpenter jeans works like a charm for me.

And the knife-nut of the year award goes to...:D

That is a really great idea, I've considered reinforcing my front pockets with leather since they wear through with all the stuff I carry around. Not much has changed since I was a pup, my toys just became a bit more refined :p

The modded pocket is a great idea to carry large folders. Since I don't sew either, I placed a small safety pin in all my jeans right front pockets. I located the pin in the same position as one would sew a seam. I can't feel the pin yet it forms the same division of the pocket as a seam would and comfortably holds my knives (large or small) vertically in my pocket.
