These are some of the blocks cut from the burl in the Trash or Treasure thread.
This is old redwood burl with really tight figure. It is also considerably harder and heavier than normal redwood burl. To give a benchmark, in the photo below there are 3 pieces cut the same size. (5&1/2"x1&1/2"x1&1/16")
1st piece is normal redwood burl, weight 48 grams
2nd piece is maple burl, weight 75 grams
3rd piece is this redwood burl, weight 90 grams
I also applied a quick finish to the 3rd piece so you can get a better idea how this stuff will look finished.
