Travel Backpacks - options?

Ortlieb makes some nice backpacks for travel. I have some of their bike bags and duffels. Well made, waterproof and great features. It can be tough to find a dealer in the US. Most outlets that sell their bike bags will order other gear for you. My Ortlieb bags have served me well for many years, worth the quest.

I suggest the North Face "Small Base Camp Duffle". Specifically the SMALL size. I use one for flying on planes that have smaller overhead compartments. It opens wide sort of like a suitcase so don't think of it as the typical duffle bag. It's waterproof and it also comes with removeable shoulder straps to use as a backpack. This sometimes comes in handly for when you need both hands free.

I have this bag in three sizes, and it's the Small size I use most. Great bag, really tough. Wide opening makes it easy to pack/un-pack and clothes don't get creased as much as in a rusac. You can also lock the zips with a small padlock or combination lock. Only had mine about 3 years, but it still looks like new, and I imagine it'll probably out-last me!

Don't forget to consider MEI

I have have used mine hard for 6 years; love it. It is more geared for flying, but is a very well made travel pack at a reasonalby price. Have not broken any sitches yet.
Made to order in California by a small family owned/run company that has been around for a while; very well respected. Great people to deal with.
