Travel Channel "Ultimate Survival Guide" rerun!

Does this mean that they're going to run the whole bunch, night after night, or once weekly? Sounds very interesting. Maybe will copy over the 1996 World Cup tapes I've rarely watched.

Thanks HM!

I saw it during its first run. My wife got bored, but we both liked the segments hosted by Ray Mears, the self-taught British survival expert. Very personable chap.

Fellows, get ready for the show tonight!
I think its quite good for mainstream TV.

Paul, Volvi: I am glad I could find something relevant on TV. I wish I could suggest more often.....

HM,

Thanks for starting this thread.

I taped all three episodes, and plan on making a better tape when they run again on the 12th.

Couple of great knife sitings....

The Woodlore knife is by Allan Wood of England.

Also, it looks as if Ray or someone, has re-done the handle on his Martindale Military, has more pinky hook.

Fun to watch.

Did anybody else notice that they edited some stuff out of these? The first time I watched the one with the Rocky Mountain segment he did a quick demo of a firebow. This time when I watched that one, that bit was gone along with him telling the story about the Native American telling a friend how he "played the fiddle" to build a fire. They must have edited some out to add more commercials, because there were tons of them. I wonder how much good stuff has been taken out of the one that I haven't seen yet?

Does anybody know anything else about the Woodlore knife. The pics on his site are pretty poor. It looks like a handy knife, but I'm curious about the bevel. It looks like it has no secondary bevel, or as some people call it a 0 degree edge. I'm wondering if he sharpens it like some of the scandinavian blades, by laying the whole bevel on the stone. It certainly seems very sharp, and tough too. Unless he has his film crew carrying a crate full of extras for him.

IIRC, there may be a couple of other segments that weren't aired this go around. I seem to recall both artic & ocean scenarios. Can anyone confirm?

I sent an email to Ray Mears inviting him to read this thread. I also asked him if there are unedited tapes of his show available. Who knows, maybe he'll pop by?

That is right, both the arctic and ocean survival parts were missing as well as the deserted island survival. I am not sure about the reediting. They definitely had far too many ad breaks but the overall length of each episode was 1 hr as at the first time.
Seeing Ray Mears here would be a definite plus.

I just got an email back from someone named Rachel from Ray Mears organization. The BBC has never made any videos of Rays stuff. She didn't say anything about Ray reading this thread. Oh well. Who knows, maybe he will stop by.
