Hi all,
I've recently been thinking of getting a 3in or under folder for travel and was hoping to get some recommendations and experiences with small folders. Any help is appreciated. Also, where can I get some good pictures of small folding knives. Thanks in advance.

I always go to 1SKS for product images. http://www.onestopknifeshop.com

If you are looking for a good general duty, folder look at the Benchmade Mini Stryker or the Spyderco Delica. Good choices either way.

I recommend the Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight, plain-edged. Execllent steel in a high-performance grind. Great general purpose design.

Stop when you get to bone.

Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Dragonfly
Spyderco Calypso

Benchmade Axis 705

CRKT Navajo (the smaller one)

all plain edge to avoid hassles with the airlines

Mine is a Spyderco Rookie, g-10, ats 55 , 3 inch plain edge. Great knife carry it on airplanes no problem so far plus it was only 39.99 at Smokey mountain knife works.

When I fly, it's often with a Spyderco Navagator as a money clip (small blade, cuts BIG), and a Spyderco Jess Horn in my shaving kit. Never once have I felt "underequipped".

If airlines are your concern I suggest one of the large Victorinox SAK's with 3.25" long locking blade. You can even get some models like the "Adventurer" with a Boy Scout logo on it. The extra tool blades are really handy when you travel and the Swiss Army Knife color and logo seldom gives trouble at the security gates.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Yes, airline travel is my main concern. I recently had my Spyderco Wegner taken from me at an airport in Texas. They wouldn't even hold on to it until the flight was over. Instead they mailed it back to me. I'm leaning toward the Spyderco Dragonfly with the stainless handle. I figure it'll look more like a small gents folder with that kind of handle on it. Thanks again.

Have you looked into one of the Gerbers - like the LST or the EZ-0ut series - they are smaller and less intimidating but hold up very well under lots of usage- I've got an LST that's got to be 5 years old and on lots of trips with me.. never even gets a second look at Airports or anywhere else for that matter... does not scare the sheeple!@ best partis that they are not expensive either -another brand would be CRKT for a less sizable investment and tool !

Why not try a Wegner jr. plain-edge? It's the one I fly with. I would also suggest the plain-edge Dragonfly handled in either stainless or carbon fiber (Sal Glesser's favorite airline carry knife).

I prefer the wegner jr. because of it's ergonomics, blade hole (though I wish it were bigger) and it's 1/8" stock in a 3" blade.

Make sure that what ever you carry is non-manacing looking (sheeple BEWARE!) and non-serrated.

Hope you find what your looking for!

To serrate or not to serrate? What about combo edges. I used my little provenator (60/40) as my flying knive with only one or two looks, but never a problem.

What is it about serrated? What about combo edges, any experiences?

BTW, I guess we don't even want to talk about black coated blades !!!!!!!!

In a Massod Ayoob column I read last night on flying with weapons (Combat Handguns, Sept 00, page 89), he said that someone at an airline security seminar apparently convinced everyone present that serrated blades could carve through the aluminum aircraft hulls. After that most of the airlines got together and declared serrated knives to be menacing weapons and prohibited them.
