Recommendation? Travel Sharpening

I would say that all you need is a strop. The FlexxStrop Field Strop is what goes with me on any trip. It's always been plenty adequate to maintain an edge on trips. If you felt you had to have a stone, I'd say the Spyderco Double Stuff would be a good way to go. But I've never felt the need. Unless its like, a trip of carving your way through a jungle or something.

I had Spyderco double stuff with me on vacation road trip. Its a pocket sharpmaker. Then i had a diamond plate in a car in my survival bin. Could sharpen a garden shovel if i wanted to.

The Spyderco DoubleStuff is my go-anywhere solution. And it comes in a nice leather slip, that can "double" as a strop in a pinch. Unless size or weight is not overly critical, then I'll also grab a Sharpmaker and/or the full KME solution (packaged in a single pistol sized hard case). All depends on where I'm going, what doing.

Sometimes a good sharpening session is relaxing, and vacation worthy. Yeah, in know, I'm weird that way. But if I know we'll just be hanging out in a vacation home taking it easy, taking along a few extra blades that I've have been meaning to set a new edge on.... Well, that sometimes IS my vacation.

I bought the double stuff on one of the road trips. Its nice to visit local knife stores as you pass by.

My top choice because small, and can sharpen anything: DMT dual-sided diafold sharpeners. I have two: XC/C for heavier sharpening which I take backpacking, and F/EF for lighter sharpening/maintenance. They do have a C/F combo folding one too, however the C is not C enough for me, so I didn't find that combo a great solution for backpacking at least.

Next best choice: Spyderco Doublestuff 2. Strong on portability, not so much on usability as it's tiny. But it works too. I get better results with my DMT.
