Traveler's Celt Prototype, Mk.II

I could be (I did for the testing of the initial prototype sample) but this time around I'm just using all of the tools available to me to get it done because I don't have a lot of free time at the moment and have to make the most of it. I'm not accomplishing anything that I couldn't with the head alone, but I'm accelerating the process. :)

Got the haft finished up and snapped a few beauty pics before sharpening it. Field test to follow as soon as I get the chance--this cussed snow has been eating up a lot of my time.

Adze configuration:

I did some adze work with the (previously sharpened) Mk.I prototype and it does a surprisingly nice job.

It's nice out, eh? Just did a nice showshoe hike at the Mayberry Hill Reserve.. it looks a lot like that!

I would think the adze configuration would be flipped the other way, or does the bevel make up for that angle? Either way, really nice job on the haft!!

Thanks! The bevel that way helps close the angle of approach for the edge, so on a haft that works for axe use it still works well for adze use--the bevel ends up parallel to the workpiece without you having to be working right on top of your toes. The bevel shoulder there also aids in breaking from the cut since the bit is straight rather than curved. :)

And yeah, the snow has been a pain since we don't have any windbreaks. Every time I shovel out the wind blows it all back in in just a few hours. I have nice tall boots with a 16" high cuff to them and I was still getting snow down in the tops of them in plenty of places because the drifts were above my knees. I have some snowshoes SOMEWHERE but haven't found them since so much is still in storage from the move. :o

I really like your handle, but I don't know a lot about this tool. Could you add more information about use, construction, and how it might apply in multiple jobs?
Thanks.

It's designed to be a compact, portable, and adaptable woods tool. It can be used on its own as a chisel or ulu knife, on a straight handle as a bark spud or a digging bar, or on an angled handle as an axe, adze, or hoe. :)
