Traveling knives

One time, I went on a business trip to Glen Falls NY and took my bladehq 20CV bugout (it had just released and was popular back then). At an afterwork event at a local German bar (if you are in the area, you'll know which), one of the guys wanted to borrow my bugout and promptly drops it on the dirty, dimly lit, sticky floor. Miraculously, I was able to recover my bugout in the crowd after contracting a few diseases. We were inebriated.

Fast forward a few years, same place, I bring my benchmade 943 (clip point, so it had a delicate tip). At the bar, I couldn't get the guy's attention to get me a cheapie to cut my brats. I take my 943 out and made the mistake of flicking instead of rolling. Promptly deploys the tip into the side of the glass beer mug. Broke the tip off....I was inebriated.

Moral of the story? Business trips = inebriation = accidents with knives.

Whatever I want. My super tinker is always on my little med bag or if flying in my checked bag. I usually bring 3 or 4 folders too.

Socom Alpha manual stays in my truck next to an Asp. Then a MT Otf of various flavors will go in the pocket.

All of my vehicles are equipped with a folding saw and fixed blade, but those are rarely used.

I’ll bring a proper “bag o’ knives” if headed out for a car-camping trip, but headed to a hotel I’ll just take along an extra couple of knives that I can play with. If I expect some down time, I might bring some sharpening stones and dull knives too.

Oh - and now I’ll be sure to bring along my new MAM folder for road-trip restaurant duty. It’s become one of my most used knives.

Sak picnicker or a multitool. And a titanium spork.

The picnicker is the best food knife in that it has the big blade, the can opener and bottle opener. So I can food shop at a supermarket and save some bucks.

Plus it does most of the knife stuff. And it has an easy clean up.

I did just pick up a Forrester in wood. Which should do about the same thing. But just look a bit fancier.

And the idea is if I pull that out at a park or a party it is a little nicer.

My other thing when travelling is they have these little roadside stalls that sell plants fruit or eggs or whatever.

Great buy a couple of mangoes or a pineapple or something to snack on somewhere.

But they are really hard fruit to eat without the right tools.

I'm getting ready to go on a road trip. There will be a whole Rubbermaid bin full of knives (mostly fixed blades), a couple saws and a couple axes.

***...wrecking bar , etc . etc . :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

So , no commercial plane rides for me , unless no choice . :( Hate that naked feelin' .

I take three of my cheapest and highly effective knives on trips. 2 stainless Mora companions (plain edge and serrated) and a SAK. If I lose one or all of them, it won’t ruin my trip

I’m sure you are going some place woody or well off the beaten path. :) We travel by car, I usually carry my MAM, a SA, or A Byrd Meadowlark 2.

For a fixed blade I lean towards a big mashy chopper of some sort.

And am trying out the skrama 200 at the moment. Mabye the BK2

And it is essentially to just beat or pry or baton. My logic is things like buying firewood. But the camp-site is stripped bare of kindling.

Or I have the far too big frozen pile of mince or sausages.

And it is just with the folder I rarely need something in-between.
