Travelling Knives

I was not thinking so much about us guys who transport one or a few EDCs as much as I was thinking about makers like Ken Onion who transport larger quantities of high dollar (high risk) knives and have lost shipments.QUOTE]

I pack my EDC in my checked bag and have not had a problem in the dozen or so times I have flown since 9/11.

If I were taking a bunch of knives to a show, I would Fed Ex them ahead.

I wouldn't trust Fed-Ex. Plenty about them in TGBU. I just traveled with a Spyderco, SAK and BK-11 with a cable gun lock through the Spyder-hole, keyring, and handle holes respectively... locked to the frame of my suitcase. No problems since I adopted this.

Then insure the bahunkus out of the shipment. Or use a better, safer service. Either is better than trying something quasi-legal such as exploding dye packs on an airplane for a large shipment.

I haven't had any problems in my travels packing my EDC with no precautions.

Just make a special compartement in yoru luggage, a false cabinet if you will, chances are you stuff will be safe, plus what kind of laws govern locked compartements within the suitcase? Especially hidden ones.
