I was wondering two things has any one used a tread mill with speed control for a variable frequency drive(basically and speed control board) on a motor? and if so did it work? and would it work?....sorry that was three question:D

Well, this might not help you at all... but in the world of benchtop mini mills, I have more than once seen people use motors from treadmills as an upgrade.

The guy who runs this site is pretty knowledgeable. Like I said, a mill is not a grinder, but clearly they can be used for machine tools.

You need to ask these questions in the knifemakers ection. General Knife Discussion is for discuss knives, not treadmill parts and grinder equipment. ;)

Treadmill controllers run a 90VDC motor. You would have to use the treadmill motor that was fitted to the controller. Those motors are very low power compared to what we need to run a grinder. The motors in treadmills are not made to do what grinders do, and will not work well or last long. I have seen a few VS disc grinders made with a treadmill motor and controller.
